Stray Cats in My Yard

The last few days I've had a couple of stray cats in my yard. They're pretty small so I don't think they're full grown, but probably over 6 months old. They seem kind of wild and run away when they see us, but they're hanging around and keep coming up to the screened porch where my cats hang out. I don't know what to do with them. My husband won't let me feed them, and I doubt I'd be able to catch them. My husband seems to think that cats can survive just fine on their own, but I don't see how they can find food in the winter.

Any suggestions?

I would contact your local Humane Society or shelter.  They will often have, or know, of a rescue that will deal with feral cats.  What they usually do is trap them - with Hav-A-Heeart traps - and then neuter/spay them so they cannot have kittens.  In some rare cases they may actually take them in.

When I lived in NJ my local shelter had a feral cat program where they would trap the cats, neuter them and then put them up for adoption.

Unless you want them hanging around all the time, do not feed them.  Years ago my sister moved into a new house and noticed a cat hanging around.  She also realized the cat was pregnant but, having cats of her own, she didn't want to take this cat in.  She set up a box in her garage where she put blankets, and would feed the cat.  Once the cat had kittens, she was able to catch her and have her spayed.  Then she took one of the kittens for her own and had the others adopted out.

Good luck....I hope you are able to help those little kitties....
