Is Your Local Shelter on Facebook?

My local shelter has a Facebook page, and I've noticed lately that they've been posting asking for help with donations of funds, supplies, adoptions, fosters, etc., and they've been very successful. It seems they post a request, and a few days later, are posting again thanking people for their support. They also post photos of animals up for adoption. Seems like a good way to get help.

I was wondering if other shelters do this too?

Our humane society (a no-kill shelter) has a very nice website which pretty much does what your's does on Facebook. They also have a quarterly newsletter which donors get. They apparenlty also have a Facebook page but it isn't mentioned anywhere on their website (odd, don't you think?). I had to google to find it...

I also found a Facebook page for "Freinds of..." and one for the Dog Shelter as well (although the latter is a County facility and not directly connected to the Humane Society...)! Maybe just a tad disorganized? But since I'm not on Facebook, I can't see if they manage to coordinate or not.

Not only does our shelter have a Facebook page, it has two volunteer support groups that have Facebook pages.  We network the animals and have increased the live release rate for dogs to 80%.  I am a shelter volunteer and a member of one of the "Friends of" groups.

I am also a member of DFW Pug Rescue, Inc., and we have both a website and Facebook page.

Absolutely....and they even have a Facebookk page for individual fosters to give them more visibility.  I also get their newsletter.  My Cleo came from my local humane society and, hopefuly soon, we'll adopt another from the same place.

It's nice to know that lives are being saved by using these kinds of resources!
