I checked the nests yesterday and the babies are all gone.
Gosh, that was fast!
Usually, you clean the birdhouse out at least once a year, usually very earlyspring...
Anyway, odds are the egg in the nest where the babies were was/is infertile and if, indeed, it was a wren nesting there (I think you said you thought that was what it was), then she won't be nesting again. Wrens only nest once each spring. However, if it was another species, they often start nesting again as soon as the first brrod fledges so it might be a second nesting. Let it sit and watch to see if a bird comes back ---without her there, even if it were fertile, it's not likely to hatch as it will get too cool. If you don't see her return, you can clean it.
The egg in the other nest sounds like a false start on behalf of whatever bird tried out the nest. Not likely to hatch... it's been way too long wihtout a parent bird. So I'd clean that one out.

Actually I think it was a sparrow; I saw the momma bird and it had a small yellow beak with a black and white striped head.
I'll wait for a while on the second nest....and check to see if there is any activity.
