A few weeks ago I purchased a seed ball that looks like an owl; it's called a "Hoot" and is so cute!  Last weekend I moved a shepherd's hook in front of the house and placed my birdhouse and the Hoot on the hooks.  I had moved it a couple of years ago to the side of the house when we had some landscaping done, but I couldn't see it from there.  In any case, when I left the house yesterday morning there was a bird feeding on the seed ball...and the same thing this morning.  The poor thing now has only about half a body....but I'm glad that the birds like it....LOL....

Where did you get it? I'm ready to put a feeder out and would love to try something new.

Fascinating! Owls, even plastic ones, are supposed to be the perfect scarecrows if you beleive the catalogues, so clearly an owl seed "ball" doesn't LOOK like an owl to the birds if they are feeding on it!

I guess not....because it's gone.....LOL....  I'm going to try something else they have...they're called "stackers".  They're round seed blocks that you can stack in a special feeder.

I got it at Wild Birds Unlimited.  They also have these things called "stackers"....they're round seed blocks that you put in a special feeder that they also sell.  Like  you said...just something "new".  They are a little pricey if you want to use them all the time, but I also have a regular bird feeder.  This is the link for the stackers; I didn't see the "Hoot" on their website, but they definitely have them in the store.
