My Squirrel....

My house is set very high up on a foundation, and we have a gazebo on the side of the house.  If I look out my bedroom window I can see the top of the gazebo.  This morning I glanced out and there was a squirrel sitting perfectly still on the top of the gazebo!!  It looked just like a statue...so beautiful.  Of course....I didn't have a camera....

Isn't that always the case --- never a camera within reach when a classic photo presents itself! We haven't seen many squirrels of late --- possibly because DH wasn't filling the bird feeders this summer (he was sick of the raccoons ravishing them every night). But new feeders are up and filled now so the squirrels and chipmunks may well reappear in time...

I actually think I had a squirrel in my storage area....when I went to get my Christmas decorations there were lots of dropping...and not from mice.  But I only saw one nut shell...i checked for a nest and found nothing.

When we had the infamous "flying squirrel incident" last year we had an exterminator check the storage area because I thought I heard something, but he found nothing.  So this must have happened afterwards.  I don't see an entry point, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.  I'll keep checking...I might have to buy a hav-a-heart trap....

I love watching the squirrels. We have a tree on either side of our property and the ends of the branches are about 10 feet from each other. The squirrels go from one tree to the other all the time through the air. They get to the end of a branch which starts to dip from their weight and then leap through the air and land on a branch on the other tree. It's amazing to watch them. Not so much fun is when they eat all the birdseed and scare the birds away, but I figure they need to eat too, so I just buy lots of seed.

In NJ I used to have a squirrel feeder with corn for the squirrels....but they raided my bird feeder anyway. Here I just have a bird feeder....I don't mind them too much...i just keep putting out birdseed.....
