Notice the unusual pattern - I wonder if he/she is young or...

This was broad daylight, although it was rather dull and overcast, and he/she stayed for quite a whie, chowing down in bird seed DH had spread under the feeder for the ground birds like juncos and doves... We'd been sensing his/her presence for a few nights lately --- his/her perfume is rather pungent!

Oh lucky you....LOL....  Definitely looks young.  Well, a diversion from the squirrels in any case.

I bought this seed ball that looks like an owl....it's called a Hoot and is so cute...apple slice eyes, apricot pupils....and all different kinds of seeds.  I'm going to move a shepherd's hook to the front of my house and put the bird house on one side and the Hoot on the other; where I have the birdhouse now I can't really see it.  If the Hoot does well they have lots of other shapes to try.  Just something fun besides my backyard birdfeeder.

wow. My neighbor put out food for a stray cat and attracted one of those. It made a nest under her porch before anyone even realized what had happened. She tried everything to get it to leave then late one evening saw a mother and several babies heading down the road and she never saw it again.

I know that wildlife can sometimes be annoying...but I believe that if you don't want to deal with wildlife then you should live in the city.  I moved to a more rural part of NJ, and now live in the middle of the "woods" in Williamsburg.  I try my best to coexist with the animals....except for the mice that sometimes inhabit my house....LOL....

He/she was back at noon today. DH says he is sure he/she is young but it would appear it also has an injured front leg as it walks funnily...

I'm no fan of the nightly perfurmery he/she emits and DH isn't happy with the holes he/she digs, looking for seeds, grubs, whatever, but I really think it's pretty in an odd sort of way and I hope it isn't badly hurt...

There are many wild animals that I wouldn't be crazy about having around...but I would never want to actually injure them or see them hurt.  I was just talking to one of my trainers this morning; she thinks she has a squirrel in her attic and, since her DH plugged the visible hole, he now can't get out.  So she's going out to buy a Hav-A-Heart trap; she doesn't want it in the house but she also doesn't want to have it killed.
