Squirrels....

"Sigh".....so, we have squirrels....  We had our quarterly extermination done this morning and I knew I had a little mice activity upstairs.  So the tech checked all of the storage spaces upstairs and said he found squirrel activity.  I also found an open pecan shell in one of the spaces....so there definitely is a squirrel....or two.

A couple of years ago we had the house checked for squirrels because I heard noises in the storage space over the garage and the guy did say that there were a couple of entry points.  Of course, right now we need money for so many other things....so I'm thinking of getting a couple of Hav-a-hart traps and removing them myself, if I can.  Then, maybe in a couple of month, having the service come in and plug up the holes.

It's always something....

I am very suprised we don't have squirrels. Living near a state park we are always on the lookout for small animals. Mice are a big problem but we have several cats so it helps.

Years ago my parents had squirrels living in the spaces between the main floor and basement in their house. We kids were absolutely sure the basement was haunted and mom and dad never believed us until we were all down there one evening due to a storm and they heard them. Once they were discovered it took about a week for my parents to get rid of the "ghosts". lol

TO my knowledge, we've never had squirrles but I KNOW we've had mice (even with three cats! Three incompetant cats) and chipmunks...

Make sure they are out before you close up entries. You don't want to have to search out a squirrel or any other critter who is trapped...

Oh I know....I was going to buy a trap myself, but DH arranged for another exterminator to come by this Friday.  I'm sure he'll recommend setting traps; once they're out then they can plug up the holes.  Very annoying.....

Also this weekend I bought some "stackers" at Wild Birds Unlimited....and set them up outside in front of the house.  Of course, within an hour there was a squirrel acrobatically hanging from the shepherd's hook.  That, besides the face that there are about 4 that tip my birdfeeder to get the seed on the ground.  Well...live in the woods....LOLOL....

Well.....yuck.....last evening DH went to use the bathroom in our guest room and came down to tell me that there was a dead flying squirrel on the floor!!  When he went in he noticed that the mouse bait that the exterminator had put down was moved...and he noticed droppings.  Then he looked over by the trashcan and there it was....dead.

I waited for him to remove it and went upstairs...there were droppings all over the floor and then we saw it....it had apparently chewed in from the storage space behind the guest room closet.  The space was so narrow!!  I don't know if it poisoned itself with the mouse bait, or if it just died of a heart attack because it couldn't get out of the bathroom.

I checked the storage space and there were lots of droppings....this weekend I'm going to do a thorough cleaning.  Then I'll get the pest control people over again to give us an estimate.  In the meantime I bought steel wool so that DH can close up that hole and caulk over it.  We have a log home and the wall had a log going across it with a wood border; that's where the sqirrel chewed through.

DH said that earlier in the evening Cleo was checking out the bedroom but the bathroom door was closed because of the mouse bait; he probably heard the little thing going crazy in there.
