A Christmas idea.
Tue, 11-27-2012 - 6:16pm

I was chatting with a friend on Face book and she gave me a great idea for Christmas gifts and I challenged those who are on Facebook to do the same.  Instead of buying Christmas presents, I will be spending that money to contribute to our Food Bank.  Not having a lot of money, I generally spend about $200.00 for gifts, so today, while at Fresh Co, as they have bags for the food bank, I bought $200.00 worth to put in their Food Bank bin.  To those that I buy gifts for, I sent them a little note that their Christmas gift was made on their behalf to the Kingston Food Bank.

I've gotten messages about keeping Christ in Christmas, which I always do, but I can't think of anything better than helping those who are less fortunate than most of us.  Having said that, I also challenge you to do the same.  I know that very few of you, if any, live next door to a homeless shelter, so maybe I'm just more aware of the poor in our society.

All the best,

That is so awesome and a great idea. Last week when I had my Christmas get together with friends we did no gifts and all brought food to the food bank. I also want to save some money to give to the animals too

I don't do Facebook, but that's a wonderful idea Patrick. We always give a nice donation to our rescue mission and a couple of other local charities throughout the year, but a bit more at Christmas time.

What a great start to Advent. Every year my kids pick a charity to give to, It's been the spca, the local nursing home, the ronald mcdonald house... Kindness doesn't need to be forking over monetary gifts though, it can be a nice note, a kind gesture and so on. This discussion from the ivillage homepage caught my attention and it's a great idea!
