Hi there! Great question! I personally like music, BUT, I also like if someone puts a control box on the site so it can be turned off! Some of the midi files that are used are very tinny sounding and can be REALLY annoying!

Thanks for posting that and stopping in! Have an awesome day!

Kat

I have a cat laughing wave file with a cartoon on one of my pages and tried to put a control box with it but can't find it on the site builder. He is laughing really loud but have no way to control the volume and thought I'd at least have a control box to turn it off if desired. It is on the Just for Laughs page. Can you help? Got any ideas?

Try putting the following code in as a web gem, like you did for your award. Do you still remember how you did that or do you need me to help you with that? The reason it won't show up is that the value for making it seen is set to "hidden". If you need some more help on this holler! Here is the code to copy and paste into the web gem you create:

AUTOSTART=TRUE LOOP=FALSE WIDTH=100 HEIGHT=125 ALIGN=CENTER>

Have a great day!

Hallelujah! You're so good at what you do! I've inserted the html and it is so nice to turn that guy off if you don't want to hear it. Thanks again for all your help. I'll keep looking for a laugh wave that isn't quite so loud and boisterous. You make site building so easy when you pass on your knowledge. We are so lazy to learn this stuff. But you know I am getting more interested to learn to make it from scratch. Maybe someday.........

Purrs

Enjoy your day!

Well I have been meaning to put up a website for our board. What are some things you would like to know about how to start from scratch? I want to put some tutorials up and thought maybe you could get me started! LOL I will be happy to help you out with anything you might want to do on your site! I love doing HTML and almost all of my sites are written that way. My own personal site is done entirely doing HTML. I have a site I maintain for the General Pet Debates board, but I do use the editor for that to save time! Let me know what you think about the tutorials and as a new user to HTML what you would like to see explained to you! Thanks!

I will give you some ideas as to what I would like on a tutorial. First would like to know which software to use and what to use as an html editor. I guess wordpad can be used. Which is your favourite? Maybe a tutorial page with a starting from scratch page like "How to build a web page for Dummies". I know the codes have to be in order on the page so I guess where to obtain the codes, to learn them and how to use them. I have learned alot already by using the site builder. I guess the most important thing is sticking to basics for us dummies.LOL The greatest features about this IVillage.com Pets on the Web is that they are free, they let you do alot without too many restrictions and give you alot of help from volunteer people like you so folks like us can play.

One more question I've seen those custom designed awards and logos on the bottom of pages of peoples websites. How do they make these from scratch? I've done a few using Microsoft Picture-It by just making a gif or jpg. Would like to make a Misha/Misty logo of our own. Does this sound too far fetched?

I seem to be the only one to ask for help on this board. Am I the only one needing help or are people just to shy to ask for it? Maybe a tutorial page would encourage them to play around more with their website.

Anyway thanks again and hope this helps to give you some ideas for your tutorial.

The question is a worded wrong...

No, I don't like music on a web site, Yes it is annoying...

Too bad there isn't an option for that answer in the poll. :) If you are going to have music, there needs to be a way for it to be turned off. I just don't put music on a site, little sounds for rollovers aren't too bad and can enhance things though.

Depends. I do like music. But some of those midis are awful!! They are electronically produced and don't sound like a real group playing. Seems most of them are primarily in the treble clef, which makes them sound (as Kat aptly put) "tinny". When I choose music for my pages, I really spend hours going thru midis to try to find some that aren't that way. I have found a few good sites, including a nice classical one. If anyone's interested, give me a holler and I'll be happy to share the links.

Even when you find good midis you have to consider how many computers out there do not have good sound cards etc. For good midi sound a good synthesizer is needed or advanced wave effects soundcard or wavetable sound card plus a very good sound driver. So when you put a good midi on your website the people viewing it might not have any of the above to hear it properly. My dh recorded his music on the keyboard but we didn't use it to send to people to listen to 'cause they may have poor sound cards in their computer which makes his keyboard playing sound crappy. It is nice though when you open a website that has nice classical music that is soothing to your ears.

Just some thoughts.......
