Just recently had to put down my chihuahua that I loved with all my heart. He lived 13 yrs and it happened so fast he stopped eating for 3 days and when we went to vet his lab work showed extreme renal failure. I was told that if his values came down we could run ivs 3 x a week to flush the toxins out...my dog hated having his nails cut i couldn't imagine putting him thr this so we put him down.....it's killing me..I do not know if my decision was right...Amy

{{{{Amy,}}}}

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby.  Renal failure is a very difficult thing, especially when it happens so suddenly.  I adopted an 8 year old cat to keep my elderly mom company.  Two weeks after we adopted him we found out he had chronic renal failure--a terminal diagnosis that might be prolonged by weekly fluid treatments.  Since Pogo was eating, playing, and snuggling we decided to do the fluids until he seemed to be suffering.  This lasted about a year and  a half.  We only had him in our lives for a short time, but it was the most amazing time I've ever known.  I still carry so much guilt for putting him through a year and a half of weekly fluid injections.  He hated them, and although he seemed to feel pretty good afterward, I can't imagine how awful it must have been for him to be stabbed in both hips with two huge syringes full of fluid.  Quality of life is everything and it sounds like your poor baby would not have had a very happy one if he had to go through so much treatment so suddenly.  You did the most loving and caring thing a pet parent could.  You let go of your baby when he needed you to.  It is the hardest, most heartbreaking thing we do as furparents, but it is out of love and respect that we do it.  You are a beautiful person for being so selfless~~it takes more love to let go than to hold on..trust me, I know.

Take care of yourself and know that your baby will be waiting for you at the bridge--full of health and life and love, and tons of kisses for doing the right thing...

Dear Amy,
Welcome to our little corner of the web, although I'm so very sorry for the reason why your here.  {{{gentle hugs}}}  Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the passing of your beloved chihuahua.  Your precious furchild must be a very special soul, to have touched your heart so deeply.

Oh Amy, Dev said it very well.  You did the most loving thing a furmom must do.  You put the needs of your beloved before your own.  It's a strong and loving Mom who does something so selfless.  {{{hugs}}}  I know your ^baby^ will love you forever for having the strength to release him from his tire little body.  It's just so sad, that once their pain ends ... ours begins.....

I hope you'll be able to stay with us, and let us know how you are doing.  Please know that we'll always be here for you, just like all our ^furangels^ are with your beloved at the Rainbow Bridge.

With my heart,
