Had to say goodbye to my 17 year old dog

Hi all.  Glad I found this board.  I had to put my dog down a couple of weeks ago because she went into sudden kidney failure.  When we went to the vet to discuss the lab results he told us about possible options such as dialysis etc. but her results were really bad and we did not want her to suffer so we decided to say goodbye.  We were with her when they put her down.  We were really pleased with how peaceful and easy it actually was and how quick she went.  That is exactly what we wanted for her, no suffering. My mom, dad, and I were giving her a huge group hug as they gave her the needle.  After everything was done and we talked to the vet (he had been her vet right through and was also falling apart because she was such a good patient) as we walked out he looked us right in the eye and said "you did the right thing".  I know we could not have done any more for her but that doesn't make it any easier.  THe only thing that I keep telling myself is the one thing that she hated more than anything is to see one of us cry so I know that she would not have wanted that.  The other day we recieved a letter from Guelph emergency vet clinic saying that our clinic (nowhere near Guelph) had made a monetary donation to research that they do to help get info on dog illnesses in our dogs name.  That was really nice and they did not have to do that.  We are going to get her ashes tomorrow and we are going to give a card and some snacks of different sorts for the people at our vet clinic as a thank you for taking good care of our dog all of these years :smileyhappy:

Hi there,

I know how much you must miss your beloved girl, but you did do the right thing for her.

At least you were all around her and she was surrounded by your love.

Hugs,
