Pet cremation?

First let me say I am very sorry for everyone's loss. My brother has a dog that has been with him for 16 years and he says he has heard of cremation for beloved pets and is going to look into it. Has anyone here done this? What kind of costs are involved and where do you find a place to do this?
Hi Mary and welcome to the board. I know that many people cremate their pets and the cost can vary greatly. My brother cremated one of his best pet friends a few years ago and it was not terribly expensive. He paid around $100 for the cremation services but chose a very nice urn to house her remains so that really raised the price. Your brother may want to check with his vet to see where it can be done in his area.

Dear Mary,
Welcome to our little corner of the web, although I'm so very sorry for the reason you are here. {{{hugs}}} What a sweet soul you are to be looking for help for your brother and his beloved dog.
Cremation is very common. As CMEvelyn suggested, your brother's Vet would be a great place to look for information. Or, you could always google 'pet cremation' in your area. As far as pricing, it differs. There are group cremations and individual cremations. From my past experience, and individual cremation (since I wanted to keep my furangel's ashes) can run anywhere between $80 to $125 dollars. (depending on your area)
Oh Mary, please be sure to give your dear brother and his beloved furlove an extra snuggle from all of us.

{{{^Bicky's^ Dad^}}} Thank you so much for that lovely and thoughtful reply. Like you.... when it's my time to join my beloved ^Whisper^ and ^Wonder^ on the Other Side, it's my wish that all of our ashes are scattered together, just outside the Golden Gate Bridge. (that's where all my family's ashes are scattered)
Oh Mark, the next time you have a quiet moment with your beloved ^Bicky^, please give me a gentle touch from me. {{{hugs}}}
.... on a side note ..... *smile* .... should we expect a new chapter soon? *fingers crossed* :)

Dear Lin Wow, how beautiful...just outside the Golden Gate Bridge. And I did give Bicky a gentle "touch" for you. Thank you so much for your kindness. I am sure somehow Bicky feels that the love and understanding this board has offered me (and him) over the last 28 months. Honestly speaking, for some reason though, I have been losing a little ground with my battle against grief (over the loss of him). I believe I am a very emotionally sound person, but for some reason I cannot get over this emptiness that has taken up residence in my soul. Some days are better than others, and I am warmed by his memories more than cry by them, but the pain still lingers as a constant reminder of how happy I once was with him. Sorry to be such a downer! LOL And regarding his chapters. Thank you so very much for your interest. Actually, I have completed about three more chapters, but I am just waiting for them to "settle" before I post them. Perhaps you are my only reader (other than myself), but because it is "Mr.Handsome's legacy" I want to make sure they do him justice. Anyway, I hope you are well...And thanks (again) for being a good friend! Yours, Mark (and Bicky)
