First vacation without her.

Hubby and I scheduled our first vacation since Gretchen passed away. It was so strange to give my mom the dates of our trip, and not ask her to watch Gretchen for us. It has been almost 4 months, and my feelings are very different now. Her resting place is grown back over with grass (the birds visit her feeder faithfully, which she would be very pleased about, as she loved the birds!) and we've completely changed her room, painted and replaced the carpet. I'm not *hurting* as much anymore, very few crying jags, which is nice. I feel more at peace about losing her. But, I *miss* her more. I'm not sure if that makes any sense. I miss the companionship and just considering her in how I live my getting a "rodent sitter." Is that strange, or what?

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your baby. I had a rat a few years ago that I loved so much- finally had to have him put down after an ear surgery- it left him with bad vertigo and seriously affected his quality of life. I don't think it's strange at all that you miss her! I still miss Milton and it's been years ago. Also, its very normal to develop life habits around your animals. My cat had to be put down two nights ago, and aside from the horrible grief, I'm just not really sure what to do with myself. I didn't realize that my whole life had begun to revolve around feeding her, giving her medication, worrying about her, etc. It's going to take some time for those old habits to cease, and that's ok right? Don't worry about what you are feeling- it's hard to just forget someone you loved. And really, why would you want to? I hope you begin to feel better about things:o). Take care,

Adjusting to not needing certain things is always hard.
