Abner and Archie

I started this story under the bread crust post.  Here is a picture of the two dogs my friend and I saved Wednesday.

Archie and Abner. A friend of mine is saving Archie from the EU list today, along with his friend, Abner. They will be looking for forever homes soon. Archie appears to be an older chug and Abner looks to be a pekingnese mix about four years old. Both boys will be neutered.

Of course they are cuties....

I always feel so bad when I hear that a dog is HW positive....why have a dog if you just don't want to take care of them the right way!

Archie is mostly chihuahua, with maybe some pug in there.  He has one heck of an underbite.

Patrick (Abner's new name) is pekingnese.  Maybe purebred, but not a particularly good specimen.

Both dogs have caught upper respiratory infections, and went to the vet today.  The good news is that is all that is wrong with them, except that Archie has heartworms.  He will have to get over his doggie cold before he can be treated for the heartworms.

We have, however, succeeded in finding an all-breed, small-dog rescue group to take Archie under their wing so we can get heartworm treatment for him at the rescue rate.  They will also help us get him exposure and network him so he can find a forever home when he is healthy.  Even full rescues are often agreeable to take another if it already has a committed foster.
