Gaye: fish oil capsules?

Hi Gaye, or if anyone else can answer my question.

I got the Blue buffalo basics salmon and potato, and she hasn't eaten too much of it, in fact, very confusing as it looks identical to the purina in the bowl so not sure how much she has eaten of it as I was told to mix them and she doesn't always eat her whole bowl.    Even if I only put 1/4cup to 1/3 cup in it at a time.

So Gaye you mentioned fish oil capsules, I should still try and add that to her diet as this food doesn't have what she needs?   She weighed 19 in March but down to 16# in May as we have started our walking again.   The Vet likes her at 16# but I like her at 17-18#.   Vet said Dachshund have less back issues when they are thinner.  So how much fish oil capusle would I give her?  And do I just buy human pills or do they make special ones for our furkids?

Rudi has another week on the ATB and there is improvement but not 100% there yet.

thanks ladies,  Josie

Hi Josie...I'm the one that mentioned the Fish OIl Capsules.  I give Cleo one once a day in her food...but Cleo is much larger that Rudi.  I give her a 1000 mg capsule but she's about 50 lbs.

Now that Rudi is on meds, I would first ask your vet about giving her fish oil...and, yes, it's just a human-grade vitamin that you can buy in any store.  Let him know why you want to give her fish oil and ask his advice.

As for the might just be that she needs to get used to it...and I also believe her eating might be a little off because she's taking medication right now.

Good luck with your little girl and please be sure to keep us updated.

I wonder if Slippery Elm Bark would work for your Rudi. It comes in capsules that you can open and sprinkle on her food. Slippery Elm Bark is good for people with tummy problems you can find it in a health food store at an herb. Also, you can try Only Natural Pets. com they have alot of natural remedies for dogs. I have bought a few things from them to help my dogs in the past if you prefer the natural route.

I give Jabaar fish oil capsules, too.  He had skin tumors, hair loss, and bad skin when he was pulled from the shelter.  He is gorgeous now.  I found Sundown, a human brand, has little, round, mini-capsules.  I had a coupon, and they were inexpensive.  I put one in Jabaar's breakfast each day.  Pugs are piggies, and they will eat anything.  He doesn't notice it.
