How many days can I give Benadryl?

HI Ladies.  Just starting new thread so it doesn't get lost.  OK: I call Vet on monday and was told to try benadryl on Rudi, twice a day to help with blisters on her paws.  I am seeing some improvement, but not totally gone.

Now I am wondering, is it OK to give Benadryl several days in a row?  Their other suggestion was bring her in for an allergy shot which she had like twice in 2012.    I miss walking with her, I know she misses it,  I have been taking her out extra to potty, and we stay outside a few mintues longer than we need to,  I have a big front window so she does get to watch the house across the street getting new siding and I took her to Lowe's yesterday as don't want her to miss out on the outside world as he paws heal.

So hoping by tomorrow we can resume walking as I need it for myself mentally and I work so hard to keep her weight healthy and all this extra not walking isn't helping her weight issues any.

Rambling here, but just wondering, is benadryl ok to give for days on end?  thanks,  Josie

Josie - I think that's something you should ask your Vet. I really have no idea.

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is one of the safest and most versatile drugs on the market.  It is safely used on canines and human infants.  It's the "sleep ingredient" in just about every "PM" product on the market.  It is used as a local anesthetic by injection for people allergic to the regular stuff.  It comes in pills, tablets and liquid.  You can feel safe using it according to directions with no side effects except possibly drowsiness.

Oh say, can you see?

Hi Josie - were you able to start walking again with Rudi? It's always best to check with the vet on medications but I gave Benedryl to my Greyhound Spencer quite a bit with no adverse affects.

Thanks everyone.  Donna:  I finally took Rudi for a walk today, the blisters are better but not all gone.  After 3 days on the benadryl, called the Vet, they were too busy to see her this week but that girl that answered the phone said if it looks like a fungus, give her athlete's foot cream.  well:  clueless on what it is, fungus or allergy?   But I went out and bought some,  have put it on her paws once a day, but I need to make sure I keep her by me so it can soak in some before she goes to lick it off.   I did finally get an appt this coming monday to try and get some answers.   Frustrating!   Josie.
