It's Official!

My retirement date is April 1, 2013.   GE made me an offer I can't refuse, and since I was planning to retire this summer anyway, I jumped at it.  I'll have a two month gap between losing my medical and Medicare kicking in, but I'll just tough it out.  COBRA is a jaw-dropping amount.  The payout will allow me to pay off my credit card debt, stay in my house, and live life without the 5:45am alarm going off!  I'll have money left over for some travel and to do some of the things I haven't had time for because I'm so frikkin' tired from my stressful job!

Oh say, can you see?

Barbara, that's great! I agree on the Cobra. When my dh retired we were stunned how much Cobra amounted to. I wish you luck. Now you can sleep in ;-)Congrats!!!

Congratulations Barbara!! I know that when my company was starting to change (for the worse) and I knew we were going to be moving in a year....I asked to be laid off.  At that time I had enough years and was of an age that I could request retiree medical....but even that was really expensive.  Now DH and I have our own personal insurance...the deductible is really high but, thankfully, we are healthy.  We also opened a Health Savings Account through our business a couple of years ago; so we have some money in there to pay out of pocket expenses.  I'm three years away from Medicare but I'm not complaining.

Good luck on your retirement!!

Enjoy your retirement!  You will get less done now than when you worked!
