I know all about spinal surgery. My 18 y.o. son Bryan has scoliosis and has had two fusions. Did your daughter lose any height??? My son lost about 4 inches, two inches from each surgery. Some people can get taller from scoliosis spinal surgery once the rods are placed on their spine to straightened them. The doctors don't let these spinal patients lay around too long. Does your daughter have an incision on her side with a bag? The surgeon did that on Bryan's first fusion. My son made the second fusion look easy, he recovered very quickly even the doctors were amazed at how fast he recovered.

I don't know if Christine has gained or lost height due to the surgery. But she did say she had lost height prior. And that one of her legs has lost muscle mass.

She was diagnosed with spina bifida occulta after she fell and broke or dislocated her back last October. She had a series of injections but they did not help.

The spinal reconstruction was picture perfect, and Christine was released yesterday.

Isn't in funny how sitting around the hospital all day makes you exhausted? At Children's Orthro was always hurry up and wait on the day of the surgery or on appointment day. Always waiting....

My son after spending his childhood in the hospital, he wants to be a radiology tech. His orthro doctor said that is very common for kids with health problems to want to enter into the medical field.
