A recent study confirms dogs are more likely to misbehave in the dark! What do your dogs do when you're not looking?
What Dogs Do When We're Not Looking
Coffee sleeps normally with me upstairs. Sometimes she gets up in the night and will come to the LR and sleep on the couch. Or she walks downstairs and drinks water and then wanders back to bed. When I go out she goes to the guest bathroom and scratches her way to China then drags the tiny scatter rug out in front of the front door. She may scratch to china when I'm home but she'd never drag the scatter rug out to the front door.
When we first brought Cleo home from the shelter the first thing she did was jump on my couch. We have two; a nicer one in the living room area and a more casual one in the family room. For many years our dogs were allowed on the furniture but after buying new coaches we decided that wasn't something we wanted any longer. So Cleo was discouraged from getting up on the couch.
I soon realized that, once she wasn't crated any longer, she was getting on the family room couch when we weren't home. So now I pick the pillows up when I leave. A couple of months ago I forgot to do this and she threw up on one of the couch pillows; I now pick up the pillows every day....
^Penny Pooch^ used to get up on the couch when we left her home, so we used to turn the coffee table upside-down on top of the couch before we left.
Anya and Jabaar sleep with me in my bed all night, and they don't get into anything. Dylan, the cat, sleeps on the bed, too, but he used to leave in the middle of the night and munch away on the house plants.
Taurus is crated and sleeps peacefully all night. If he wasn't crated, he would potty all over the house.
I think everyone knows Jack and Taz sleep in their little pen in the basement so no problem getting up during the night. But when we're gone I've found bones hidden on the living room sofa (leather) which are off limits. And there's that time while we were gone Taz found some Hershey kisses and opened the wrappers and went to town with chocolate. Who knows what goes on in their pen at night. I would like to get a webcam but I bet they circle and circle. I know for one thing when we get them up in the morning Jack's blankets are right in front of Taz's crate, aww like he wanted to be close to her her. Sweet!
Gaye - Jack used to do something similar. For some reason he was jumping on our bed and making himself comfortable while we were gone for the night. I just put boxes on top of the bed and he stopped! The rascal - always testing me!!
Laura - oh no, not on your pillows! I don't allow Jack and Taz to get on the living room sofa (leather) but they can use all the other sofas in this house LOL
Suz - you must not get a lot of sleep or interrupted sleep. We decided a long time ago we would not allow our dogs on our bed.
Suzan - how cute the things Coffee does.
Yes...On the pillows. And I had to do what they tell you "never" to do...take off the cover and throw it in the wash. Now one of my pillows is "larger" than the other two....LOL....
