A shelt.er volunteer friend of mine just had to put her beloved dog down a couple of days ago.

And then she learned that a dog she was fond of, rescued from our EU list in February, was in a bad situation several hours away.  Stuck in a kennel, stressed, and her mange had returned.  The foster fell through.  So Char is going to go get her.

It seems like when we lose a precious companion animal, somehow they lead us to another.  Sometimes you just KNOW it.

This has happened to me.  Has it happened to you?

What a wonderful story....I'm so happy...even though I'm crying.  When we lost my beloved Ylab ^Valentine^ to kidney failure I didn't think I would want another dog for a long, long time.  We still had my dalmatian ^Samantha^ and I felt that was enough.

When my local shelter had an Open House for their new facility I decided to drop by after work.  I saw a little lab/mix "Sandi" huddled in the corner of a run.  I asked about her and the shelter worker told me that she had been found just a couple of weeks before and wasn't doing well with the noises of the shelter.

I cried all the way home...she had just touched my heart.  I told DH about her, but I also told him that I wasn't ready for another dog.  He wanted to go and see her the next day.  When he saw her he started to cry...he said she looked so much like my beloved Valentine....even though I couldn't see the resemblance at all.

So...we had lost Valentine on August 2 and brought home "Sandi", now Cleo, on November 21.  She is so much like my Valentine that it's scary.  I know my Valentine sent her to us.....

What's that saying?  A door closes and a window opens?  I firmly believe this in all aspects of life.

I am so happy for your friend and for her new furbabe. (I'm very sorry for her and the loss of her dog though)

when I was about 10 we had a new puppy but it didn't survive after a day,, very very sad thing... my dad decided we would go get anohter puppy, he had heard of one ..... as we pulled in the long driveway to the kennel another puppy came running down to great us. The breeder said,, oh you shouldn't have seen this one,, she's the runt and was going to be put down. Immediately my dad said, we'll take her. She truly was a vrey tiny short pudgie little thing, but the sweetest little pooch one could ever want. We named her Pudgie. (teeny tiny schnautzer)

OMG....another Valentine!!  We had thought of no names for our new furkid but, since she was born on Valentine's Day we thought it was perfect!!

I got this in an email a while ago about getting another dog when you lose one:

"Before humans die they write down their last Will and Testament, give their home and all they have to those left behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I'd ask...
To a poor and lonely stray I give
My happy home
My bowl & cozy bed, soft pillow and all my toys
The lap which I loved so much
The hand that stroked my fur & the sweet voice that spoke my name
I'd Will to the sad, scared shelter dog, the place I had in my human's loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds
So, when I die, please do not say "I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is too much I can stand."
Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope and give MY place to HIM.
This is the only thing I can give,
The love I left behind."
