Seventeen went and one went back

I volunteered at the shelter's offsite adoption event at PetSmart yesterday.  We took 17 dogs and only one went back to the shelter.  My heart is breaking for this little Cairn.

Thi s is "Warnell," but he seems to answer to "Buddy." He didn't get adopted at the PetSmart event this afternoon, and it broke my heart to put him back in the trailer. He is housebroken and sits on command, loves people and kids, but probably needs to be ann only dog, because he doesn't like other dogs very much. He is listed as a Cairn Terrier mix, and he is young - definitely under 2.
Buddy, I am so sorry you didn't get a home for Christmas.

Less than 2 years old, healthy, handsome, intelligent, playful, housebroken, neutered, microchipped, sits for treats.  Appears to answer to "Buddy," though he was a stray and we don't know his name.  Kid friendly.  One problem -- he doesn't like other dogs.  He destroyed three potential adoptions by growling and barking at other dogs passing by.  Surely, there must be a home out there where he can be the only pet and be loved and spoiled.  I truly love this little guy.  Of course, I can't take him because I have two seniors, and it wouldn't be fair to them.

Customers going into and out of PetSmart were in the Christmas spirit and bought inexpensive toys for our shelter dogs.  Buddy had a ball destroying and tearing up his stuffed snowman, and another citizen bought him a sturdy knotted rope.  I put it in his cage when I put him back in the trailer.  I hope the shelter lets him keep it.  It's his only Christmas gift.

Praying for the perfect adopter Wednesday.  Of course, I can't be there to "sell" him, because I have to work Wednesday.

Gaye....you have to focus on the positive....you adopted out 16 dogs!!  That's fabulous!

This little guy is going to have the perfect forever home soon....unfortunately there are times when dogs seem good on "paper" and then there's one little thing that is just not right.  To be honest, when I first went to our Humane Society the day I saw Cleo there were so many other dogs there...but Cleo stole my heart.

Here's hoping that Buddy finds his home sooner than later....
