Last night we had to rush Taz to an emergency animal hospital. She was bitten by a copperhead! Her left front leg got so swollen like you would not believe! I was so upset and worried. It took us 45 minutes to get there so you can imagine what it was like for me.

I just took her outside for a few minutes. She still has not peed, is this normal? I guess the drugs are causing this. She still cannot stand let alone sit on her own...well barely. But for the most part she is still sleeping...really conked out.

Thanks Donna! I am a worried mama...;o)

The not peeing thing doesn't sound good - call the vet and see what they think just to be sure.

I have some good news!! First of all, I took your advice and called my Vet. She's not peeing because she's not eating or drinking. Honestly, she would not take any water or food. Finally I had to get a syringe and force it down her throat. It didn't seem to work since the more I forced it, the more she got stubborn with me. I took her to her water bowl and dipped my fingers in the water, then she licked my fingers. Finally she drank from the bowl. Still did not pee though! I brought her in and hand fed her a nibble or two of dry food and she ate it!! I was so happy....otherwise I would have to take her in and have her fed with an iv. Her facial expressions are much more expressive now. In fact, she's watching Jack as he walks around her. Poor Jack, he doesn't understand all of this. Of course, he's liking that it's just me and him on our walks, lol

I also noticed that her paw (claws) are not extended any longer so it looks like the swelling is starting to come down. Whew! I am so relieved. I guess this will take time. ;o)

I'm so sorry that you've been through so much with the snake bite. Poor Taz. How is she feeling this evening? We have lots of snakes here in NC but we don't see many rattlers. I've been told that gravel or very rough rocks can keep snakes away since they don't like anything to get in their scales. They would rather slide over smoother rocks. They have a snake repellent at our local home improvement store but I haven't tried it.

Thank you! Taz is doing much better. In fact, she is back at her own self...stealing Jack's food, barking (I need ear plugs) and her paw/leg is no longer swollen. She has about two more days of the antibiotic and then she is
