So you're giving Cleo 4 cups of food a day? If so, then I would cut her down to 1 cup in am and 1 cup in pm. Dentastix are caloric so I'm not surprised about her not losing weight. Do the dead teeth need to be taken out? I know how frustrating it all is though! At least she's a healthy girl!!

That is a tough one... as we all know how hard it is to take off weight... especially as we get older.

She's on lite food already, but the vet said to cut her down to 1 1/2 cups at each meal.

About the dead teeth...the vet said if we notice that they are giving her a problem they'll have to be removed.....but not now.

Oh Laura that is frustrating. I don't use the denti-stix either as Coffee just doesn't really like them , she refused the "greenies" and they are really VERY expensive. I would just start cutting back her meals gradually, like 1/4 cup (each serving) less for a few days or a week or so, so that you and she won't be devastated. I know her food is "lite" , is it also for "aging dogs"?

I think it's lite for adult dogs.

Donna didn't you once post that you can add green beans to dog food to help a dog lose weight? I thought you added so much green beans to the dog food and take out a small amount of the dry dog food, the green beans are fiber and they help dogs feel fuller. I have Peco and Vozzy on green beans to help keep their weight down. Before Peco was eating toilet paper (for fiber, I guess) now with the green beans in his dog food he stopped eating TP. Vozzy was eating grass all the time and he looks to have an allergic reaction (red and itchy feet) to eating grass. Vozzy stopped eatting grass, maybe the green beans give Vozzy the grass taste he likes.

Emmy weighs a whopping 60 pounds and I only give her 2 cups of food, total, a day. So that's why I was surprised you were feeding Cleo 4 cups! I supplement with non-caloric items such as green beans and baby carrots. Those stix that the vet recommended probably aren't for daily use anyway. I only gave Emmy those dental type stix maybe twice a week. So again, high calories. I think you will see a definite slim-down for Cleo without the daily dental stix. Also, what size Milkbones are you giving her? I give Emmy & Buzz the ones for small/medium size dogs. So I can give them several a day without worrying about the calories as much and they think they're getting more treats than just once a day!

Yep green beans are a great filler and cheap. I also use baby carrots and back in the old days when canned pumpkin was cheap, used that as well.

Good about the teeth! Spencer had a dead canine tooth which never had to be pulled.
