My sister has a Goldendoodle, my nephew has a Labernese, and a friend has a Bernedoodle. They all cost as much as a purebred. I have heard of a few others, but I had NO IDEA there were so many! I bet if you pick your two favorite breeds, you'll find them on the list.
Check out the list here: http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/hybriddog/mixdesignerdogsa.htm
Do you have a hybrid? Would you get one?
This is just my opinion.....I have owned pure-bred dogs as well as mixed breeds....and have now decided never to purchase a dog again because there are so many wonderful dogs in shelters/rescues.
Having said that....every dog deserves a wonderful, forever home but as to these "designer" dogs that cost a fortune in essence they are mixed-breed dogs with most of the good qualities of a breed as well as the bad. Responsible dog breeders breed dogs to better the line and this is made more difficult when you have two breeds in one.
Honestly, I just don't get it....but that's just me.
I volunteer at our city shelter. I see "designer" dogs every day. They are called "mixes" at the shelter and can be adopted, fully vetted, for $100.
Would I pay a premium price for one? No.
Would I adopt one? Sure.
Every one of thosse strays and owner surrenders deserves a loving home.
If I were looking for a "hybrid," I would look no further than my local shelter. Hybrids are so called "designer dogs" but they're nothing more than a mixed breed. Look in the shelters first, if searching for a dog. Also, IMO, some of those who are breeding the designer dogs are simply nothing more than a puppy mill. These people don't care about the dogs in their care - they're only concerned with how much money can be had.
