I finally had to admit that Cleo is getting a little "chunky".

Ahh that age old problem of leash pulling. I never could get Emmy out of that bad habit. Even with a gentle leader she pulled. Buzz hates going for walks so for a little while he will walk ahead of me (no pulling though - most racing Greyhounds have been leashed trained) but after a short while he starts to lag behind and then I'm practically dragging him along. LOL! I think with continuous walks that Cleo will turn out just fine!

HI Laura
Coffee loves doing her commando act. Down on her belly crawling along on the grass. I don't mind,, makes her happy . She marks all over the place and normally that is a male thing but I don't mind that also. Main thing is they are out and about and moving around. Try making her sit , it's harder for them to continue to drag you along if you keep commanding them to sit (or stay if she knows that command) . The turn around and walk in the opposite direction. She will soon find out that you are the boss not her. If she starts pulling again, then command stay /sit then turn around and walk again in the other direction. It will take a while and it is difficult and frustrating,, but if Coffee can do it then so can all the others... believe me she' s doing really well right now. (until we take her dowtown and it's crowded with people then she's back to overexcitement and pulling)

Yay for you and Cleo! Have you ever tried a slip lead? Our trainer recommended one for Dharma because she'd pull to the end of the leash (from fear) and practically choke herself with a martingale or a choke collar but the slip lead isn't harsh like the choke collar is. heres the link I love my slip lead so much I got another one.
Unlike the choke collar, the slip lead gets loose the second a dog stops pulling. The change in Dharma is amazing.

I totally agree with you! The turn around and walk in the other direction is how I got Duncan to stop pulling.

We do have a slip lead for her because I was always worried about DH walking her.

Thanks so much for the tips...I'm going to try them the next time I walk her.

for some reason, it seems to bother some when their pet marks.. but I just don't care, right now anyway. I had bigger fish to fry with Coffee... LOL I understand that they should not be marking but I'm not sure why. Well if it's indoors that's obvious but in the forest??? She doesn't mark if we are wondering around the sidewalks or downtown or in a store, just in the forest... hmmmm

The problem with that slip lead is that my little houdini would slip right out of it in 10 seconds. But I'd be willing to try one (if I find one here)... I'll be looking for sure.

Why is it wrong to mark? As you said, I can see if it's indoors or if it's in public on someones bench seat or some place people frequent, but in parks or forests? I don't get it. Emmy marks like a male dog by lifting her leg - that's her being aggressive and dominant. She will do it in the back yard if Buzz is dogging her steps when she's trying to pee, then scratch the grass backwards to fling it on Buzz - LOL! Buzz doesn't mark much at all. Spencer was awful! He did it every 1/2 minute on a walk even if he was dry!
