New here, looking for a diagnosis. Can anyone compare TS with dystonia? (m)
Hi, I'm Sherri, mom to Clay, who is 5 and has recently developed motor tics and a sighing tic. The motor tics are shoulder rolling, foot stomping, an arm flail and an allover body twitch; the latter two are jerky and sudden and appear (to me) to be involuntary. I was pretty sure at first that he has TS, but after reading this board and some of the archives I think it seems curious that he has none of the other typical associated conditions (no OCD/anxiety, ADHD, tactile sensitivity, behavior problems or learning disabilities). But perhaps this is pretty common and it just appears that most other TS kids have these associated conditions because people tend to post about them a lot?
I was wondering if there are other tic disorders I should be looking into. I tried to read some about dystonia but from what I've read I don't have a clear picture in my mind what type of movement is typically seen.
Ds's tics seem pretty common among TS kids, so my focus remains here, but I'm wondering if that's enough. Ds is seeing a pediatric neuro and has had a normal MRI. He is going in for bloodwork (TSH, Free T4, Ceruloplasmin, Serum Copper so perhaps we'll know more after that.
Glad to have found this board!
