disappearing text in posts?

Is there any hope that the posts that are missing text will ever be restored?  Over on the Quick and Easy Recipes board we have thousands of recipes, and we are discovering more and more of them are missing half of the recipe, or more!

Like this one: http://www.ivillage.com/forums/node/12012220

or this one: http://www.ivillage.com/forums/node/115430523

I clicked on maybe 15 recipes randomly and came up with 6 of them missing part of the post.

Most of our board members have quit posting new recipes because it hardly seems worth the effort if the recipe is going to disappear.  Add in the fact that we can't search to find recipes because the results that come up are only vaguely related and are often on non-cooking boards. Even when I searched the EXACT title of a post, it did not come up in the results. I had to manually click "see all threads" and search through pages to find it.

I guess CMEvelyn is trying to bulk up the posts, but most of the stuff she posts are just links to articles elsewhere on iVillage, which just takes people AWAY from our board. Which might be better for iVillage and the ad revenue, but it doesn't really serve our members......

Cara, we have teh same issue on Stitcher's Niche and Deconrating & Home Repair. Usually it's the opening post in a thread , with only one line, sometimes not even a complete sentence reaming. All the discussion, links, etc that the poster made ar emissing although posts to that thread appear to be intact. I'm finding new ones all the time...

Add to that that postes between April and OCtober of 2012 went missing n the transfer adn have never reappeared...

And I totally agree about search! IMPOSSIBLE!

Good morning..

While we have hopes the text will be restored, I honestly couldn't promise it. Like Carol said, it's just the first post in the thread and I don't know if they've found out yet what is causing that. While it's not ideal, and I know it's a pain, starting a thread with the sub line as normal, then posting the recipe in the reply, seems to be a workaround.

Have a good Monday..

Donna

This is especially annoying for our boards: the food ones. The first post in the thread is usually a recipe. When you lose the content of that recipe, it's worthless. I know I had a recipe for rolls that I had stored no where but on Quick and Easy Recipes. The thread is still there, but no recipe. It's lost to me forever. And I am sure that's not the only one.

And the search; beyond worthless.

Same here --- when I (or previous cls or even boardies) post a tip or tutporial on both my boards (Stitcher's Niche, Decorating & Home Imporvement), there is usually a link in the first post (we post links to the original web site or blog for copyright reasons --- we do NOT paste copies of the full tip or tutorial). In a LOT of the threads that were transferred over, only line one of the post is present, if anything at all --- no links or only part of the link is shown. So... it's bad enough when a link gets broken due to age but with this transfer, they were totally destroyed! And I have NO WAY to restore them so those tips and tutorials are also gone for good.

Donna, on my board its seems that its not just the first post in the thread that affected. We have a Recipes folder and its just a mess, with no pattern to what transferred or didn't. The format was originally one folder for recipes, each thread a category of recipes such as desserts or soups. Occasionally somebody would post a thread with a single recipe instead of adding it to the category thread; in anticipation of the Pre-2012 Clean-Up I decided to consolidate and that's how I discovered just how bad it is. At this point I don't see the point in doing anything more since there's no telling when or if those missing recipes will ever reappear. Here's a thread in which none of the recipes transferred:  http://www.ivillage.com/forums/node/14739002

On some other threads some recipes transferred while others disappeared and some are partially there. Such a shame, members went to a lot of effort of type out favorite recipes, and some of those members are now gone so no way to ask them to repost it.

Hi..

You're right, we're now seeing it sporadically happen to responses. The ticket was updated to include that information for when they are able to work on that.

Thank you..
