Float to Top?

I have a question about the Float to Top feature. It appears that if I select that option then the thread stays at the top and any newer threads start below it. If I later un-select the option then the thread reverts to its original position in the queue. Is this correct? If so, is there any way to get a thread somewhere in between? Sometimes we want to keep a thread active and easily viewed, but not necessarily the first thing one sees when viewing the board.

Erin, I thought that didn't work anymore with the new platform? That threads appear in the order in which they were originally posted, regardless of when the most recent reply was added. When I look at boards that is how I see the threads.

So the function of "float to top" is just so that *I* don't lose a thread? Kind of a strange feature...if a thread is going to get lost in the shuffle then its unlikely that anybody is going to see it or respond to it, so not much reason for me to need to see it. Thanks for the heads-up.

Hi,

That's not how I see them. Can you send me a screen shot (or post it here) of what you see on a board? In my view, they are sorted by the latest post—which would be why the float would be ideal. If you have newer posts bumping it out of view, having one floated to the top will keep it in view for yourself.

And as Cynthia mentioned, if a CL wants a specific thread kept at the top for all, you can always ask your community moderator to do it for you.

No sense in having that ability ???
All the posts/boards are seen differently for every member
Not like before which I guess explains again why less people post

There absolutely is a sense for that ability. If I post or see a thread that I want to keep tabs on, I can float it to the top and I'll always see it. Whether it gets replies or not, it's right there for me to see, rather than having to hunt it out.

There are a lot of settings so I think that's where the different views are coming into play, unfortunately, along with some members having issues with their settings not sticking.

"replying to it to keep it up towards the top—like how we used to 'bump' things up"

Erin, I thought that didn't work anymore with the new platform? That threads appear in the order in which they were originally posted, regardless of when the most recent reply was added. When I look at boards that is how I see the threads.

If one of you lovely CLs from the Love & Sex boards ever wants something to stay floated on top, just let me know and I will assist you with that.

Hi!

I'm not sure if that's something that can happen (other than replying to it to keep it up towards the top—like how we used to 'bump' things up), but I'll ask about it. I do want to note that when a community leader or a member floats a thread, it's only for their specific view. Only moderators/admins can float for everyone to see.

HTH!
