Float to Top?

I have a question about the Float to Top feature. It appears that if I select that option then the thread stays at the top and any newer threads start below it. If I later un-select the option then the thread reverts to its original position in the queue. Is this correct? If so, is there any way to get a thread somewhere in between? Sometimes we want to keep a thread active and easily viewed, but not necessarily the first thing one sees when viewing the board.

Erin, I have a  Good News update: today I am seeing the threads in order of the most recent reply. Last night I was on the boards and it was not working, so maybe it takes 24 hrs for a reset preference to kick in? Whatever, I hope it sticks.

I am one of the members who always gets the "email in use" error message so I had given up on trying to reset my preferences. At your prompting I was eventually able to change my email address and change my preferences, and then I saw threads in order of most recent reply. However after I changed back to my original email addy the change of preference was lost, so that fix doesn't work for me, unless I want to have a new email with iVillage.

It may be worth noting that in order to even get to the page to change my email I had to access my account through the iVillage main page. Other members may not realize that the profile/settings that we can access from the board pages are different. Since I have my favorite boards bookmarked in my browser I rarely visit the Main Page and never log in through there.

That one person must ne me since the Edit your Preferences button on the link you provide will NOT take me anywhere. It just sits there and ignores me, no matter how many times I click on it! SO while my email it "taken", it won't let me CHANGE my emaileither, PROBBLY becasue my email is taken, do ya think?

Hi Tracy -

I'm sorry. I'm not sure why it's not a default, though I can see how some people would want to see the most recently started thread as well. I'll make a note of it and request that it be made a default. Thanks for the input. :)

You don't have to create a new account, just change the other one temporarily, but that's your choice if you don't want to. Once the database issue has been finished Jess can get started requesting fixes again. I know the email in use issue is one that they are already aware of.

Thanks,

Erin

Last week was teh first time I was able to get in and change preferences without it giving me the email already in use error, but I don't think that it was every really explained that you were able to change the preferences to show the topics in order of replies, I guess I'd just assumed that was an automatic thing, why wouldn't you want the thread with the most recent reply to float to the top to readily see.

However, I am now back to getting the email taken error.  I tried changing it to a different email address I also have.  It says that email address is already taken.  But I think I mentioned in another thread, I am not going to create a new email account for the sole purpose of changing my ivillage profile, why should we have to go to that much work if this site can't get its stuff together enough?  Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I think others have said before, we already put in a whole lot of time and effort just to access the sites on a daily basis, I am susprised there are still as many people as there are on each day.

Tracy -

There is a setting in your preferences, under general, to sort by most recent post. [Edit My Preferences > General]

I know the issue with email in use may hinder some from changing their preferences. If that's the case with you, you can temporarily change your email address to something else—here—and then update your preferences and then switch it back to your preferred email address. I only know of one person so far who was unable to do that, but as I experience the same email in use error, I was able to switch temporarily to change my preferences.

Let me know if you need any help!

Keeping tabs on posts is not easy with this new upgrade .. only if someone replies.

Hi Hugs,

Yep, we'll have to disagree. But that's the beauty of a personal setting, if you don't like how it works, you don't have to use it. Everyone wins in the end. :)

I know keeping tabs on posts has been difficult for some, but as Jess mentioned, once we get the data issue fixed, she can resume asking for fixes.

Thanks,

I've never seen threads bumped up when someone replies to them since this new platform, which is what is so frustrating at times, they always appear in the order they were posted.  Unless that is a setting somewhere in the preferences that you have to set.  But on the board overall for anyone just looking at it, I'd be interested to see a board that it happens on.
