A Great Tip and a Question

We all know the search function of the message boards has been laughable since the software change. I have a fix that has worked for me on many occassions. Use an outside search engine for what you are looking for. I am a CL on a recipe board so what we have missed the most is the access to our recipes we banked on having stored on the boards. I want to make a blackberry cobbler for my father tomorrow and I know I have a great recipe posted on my board. I can't find it just looking on the Quick and Easy Cookbook. So I went to G*****, entered, "iVillage blackberry cobbler" and it took me right to the recipe I was looking for.

Now, my question. If you go to that link you can see that only a portion of the recipe is showing. That has been a constant problem since the switch last October. Is this still on the list of things that need fixing? This recipe is doing good by having some ingredients and some steps listed. Many of our recipes are now just showing the title; no ingredients and no steps. For a recipe, that's a big problem.

Hi Tracy -

That's actually not the correct link; that's on the test site not the live site. There may be site differences, so I just wanted to point that out in case you come across something.

I find the best way to search is to add in the site parameters. In Google's search box, type: site:forums.ivillage.com <insert search term>

So if I was searching for a potato salad recipe, I would do:
site:forums.ivillage.com "potato salad recipe"

Here's a link about search parameters: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/136861?hl=en&ref_topic=3081620

As for the missing text, I know it's on the list (that it happened and is happening) but I don't know what the game plan is for handling it.

It's not just recipes. On both my boards --- Decorating & Home Improvements and Stitcher's NIche, sometimes a line or two shows but usually whole posts are blank. Kind of a turn off when you go to a tip thread and find a line thast says click here and the "here" isn't there! Who's going to look down a line of empty posts to find the one at the end where I have tried to post a correction?

And even if there were a way to reconstruct that post (i.e. if I knew what the link was, and if it were in my current cl name --- not the old CL-thatyank or someone else's name, which I can't edit) I find that typing in the rest of the link won't take...Looks good when you hit post but come back later and it's gone again!

And it isn't just OLD threads this is happening too. I find it on recent (since the change-over) threads as well...

Tracy, I feel your frustration with the partial recipe problem. On my board (50ish and Beyond Parents) we have a Recipes folder that has/had a lot of great recipes submitted over the years by various members. It has the same problem, that most recipes are chopped off and some are just gone. Unfortunately many of them were posted by members who I haven't seen in a long time so no chance of getting the recipe reposted. I was trying to keep that folder from being deleted, until I realized that it is mostly gibberish now...such a shame.

I don't know if they will ever be able to reconstruct the data that is corrupted or went missing...Erin, what do you know about this?
