Not using gmail so this won't work. Not inclined to change my email, even if it would let me, to another account either... too much is going wrong as it is.
As for the character lenght, clearly this number is strange --- how in heaven's name is anyone getting anything beflow that limit with links back to their boards? As near as I can tell, the 255 limit is pretty much exhasted just with my linkback to Photobucket for my eagle pic, for, as you can see, it has returned but with that links only as CL for " showing as additional (6?) characters! But wierd --- that little quotation mark is blue and it's linked --- to my board Stitcher's Niche! Not that anyone but a semi-geek like me would even try clickong on a quotation makr!

What browser and OS are you using?
The avatars and sigs are still being added back in. That's why you see a lot of the default red ones. As soon as they are imported completely they will automatically switch to the one you had (unless you manually change it like I did to mine).

I'd like to get my avatar back, as well as my signature, but I can't access my account. The "Edit My Preferences" tab takes me to a nearly blank screen. I use IE. Whoa! I take that back! My signature just appeared! Now to see if I can get back (find) the avatar I had.

I'm sorry. I had the same exact error. There is a quick fix, but I don't know if you want to do it, but it's worth mentioning. To fix the email error, you can change the email address temporarily if you'd like. I don't know if you're using gmail, but if you are, gmail accepts any form of the email address as the same one.
For me this meant changing it from cmoderin@ to cmod.erin@. You can have cm.od.erin, cmod.e.r.i.n@ and so on. They all go to the same box. That fixed the email error. (Which is being worked on.)
The character limit is not work-aroundable, but when you get below the limit (by removing coding) the error disappears.
I know, none of the above is ideal, but it's what I have at this very moment.
ETA: The avatars are trickling in—as they are updated the default red iVillage ones will be replaced automatically.

Erin, in my preferences, ALL the boxes are blank EXCEPT my signature code, which it's rejecting as too long.
And nothing I do makes it work --- I still get the email taken and signature too long message when I'm not even TRYING to work on the signature. I can't FIX the signature. I can't insert my avatar. I can't do ANYTHINg to my preferences without those two irritating messages.
This is VERY frustrating...

Erin, I did get it sorted...I have my avatar, and I have a siggy. Not my usual siggy. Hoping the 255 character limit goes away so I can bring back my rotator and other info I had in my siggy. But I'm patient.

I am sorry I missed this. Did you get this squared away? If not, there is a temporary work-around. The signature issue is a known issue. We've requested the limit be removed. In the meantime, removing any unneeded coding from it will {hopefully} get it below the 255 limit. If you need help, let me know.
On the replies thing, if you are in your settings and click on private messenger, the two replies boxes should either be empty or have numbers in them. If they have your member name, delete it and add a number. That should correct it and allow you to save your settings.
