Hurricane Sandy & Updates
Mon, 10-29-2012 - 9:05am

Hi, everyone.

I hope all of our East coast friends are safe and sound today! Here in NYC there is no public transportation, and the first rains of the storm have arrived. We're all working from home until further notice -- and for as long as any of us have power. I'll get in touch with the tech team today, to find out who's able to work, and what they're able to work on. I'm not sure where everyone on our team lives, but some parts of NYC have been evacuated. I just missed being in the evacuation zone, myself! Eek.

Needless to say, the hurricane will definitely impact our progress this week. As of last week, their #1 priority was Replies, and then the inability to Edit Preferences. I'll post updates here and in a new thread, as I have them.

Yours in batteries (& 3 dozen rolls of toilet paper because my husband went a little "hurricrazy" at the supermarket),

...keep going!

LOL!  My mother does the same thing with hurricanes and toilet paper but I got news for them both, you can't flush toilets without power.  The pumping stations go down and the toilets back up.  I own a camping portable potty.

I wish you all the best of luck and my thoughts and good energy is headed your way.

Thanks, Karen! We're all just praying that the power stays on. In the meantime, I've been baking like a maniac. If we lose electricity, my kids will just eat bread and muffins for a few days. Mom of the year -- that's me! LOL

I did find out that one of the guys on the team was forced to evacuate yesterday :(. Fortunately, he had a place nearby to go! So scary...

...keep going!

Be safe! I am on the West Coast, so although I do know there is a storm brewing, not so up-to-date on the details. Thanks for the update.

Nawleansdarlin- Love your camping portable potty idea-I've lived in Louisiana all my life and never thought to buy one! Even when the electricity manages to stay on, they often encourage everyone to  cut down on their flushing (something to do with extended the capacity of the tanks?) so having a portable potty is a great idea.

Continued thoughts and prayers for those in Sandy's path! CMBrenda and I were talking earlier about how weird it is to be on the "worrying" end here in Louisiana. The helpless feeling is awful Frown

Hi Jess,, I'm very sorry I hadn't read this thread before now.... I have heard (here in Germany) about the hurricane and how bad it was . I also didn't think about the fact that the tech team is in NYC. I wish you all the best, and hope it gets back to norm soon for you, even though I do understand the immensity and serverity of the problem there , having lived in Manhattan for 11 yrs myself. Hang in there (())

Today, Tuesday, the day after the storm, we're thinking of all of our iVillage techs and other employees in NYC. I hope all of you are safe and doing okay. With power and transportation out there and streets littered with storm debris, we know it will take even longer to get problems resolved with the board changes. It is most important that you all be well. May God bless you all as you recover from the storm.

I remember last year when  Hurricane Irene , hit upstate NY  the small village where  I was born and raised  they lost houses , farms,  everything, It look down there , just what it looked like up here , It is hard, for the people with out Electric,( it was in the summer ) all the things everyone thinks they need, but really in times like this you just want to make it thru another day for everything to be finally over with my town is very slowly make it thru to rebuilding now it 15 months later, it doesn't happen over night,.... And many people here never got help from FEMA because they lived in an area the was prone to flooding.....  So maybe this might help you  Fema told them they would have to give up their property and moved to a higher location.... So I am Hope that people realize this..... If you are in a flood area you aren't likely to get covered  I will continue to pray for all NYC ,Staten Island, Long Island and all the other small islands there, Plus, NJ, CT. WV RI,MD, VA any place that Sandy Hit....God Be with all !!!!

We have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.. Me my mom and sis live together by the water on Long Island. We did evacuated and now sis is at her friends and me and my mom are at my son and his gfriend. We cant go back now and its been three weeks without power. the problem is my mom is 89 and its really tough with no respite and no help right now.. Her stuff is back at house and sis is trying to get help here where we are but nothing has panned out yet.. I need some respite to do errands and shopping but getting none.. the peeps in  house work and do their own thing and I cant expect them to babysit ...

I so hope this is over soon but its been three weeks without heat, water, power electric where we live and it doesnt look good.
