Hi, everyone.

I wanted to let you know where we are on a few items: the project to delete old threads, and other message board-related fixes coming soon.

You may have noticed, we’re still waiting on the deletion project to happen. iVillage is in the process of moving hosting companies, and our database guys are focused on that right now. We don't want to run the deletion script without them babysitting it...too risky. I’ve asked our GM and CTO when they expect the deletions to begin (they know it's causing other boards fixes and projects to be delayed) and when they give me a date, I'll give it to you.

In the meantime, I'm making sure that some of our message board fixes get into the workflow. This week, the team is cleaning up a bunch of 404 errors (page not found) coming from message board links promoted around the site. This is important because it impacts our effectiveness in Google. After that, they'll be fixing 2 tools that Mods and Admins require, and they'll be restoring post counts on the Category page. These fixes will take us through the middle of March. We haven't had planning meetings for the two code releases that will happen in April, but I'll definitely be requesting 3-5 additonal fixes there. I'm happy we're still able to move forward with these!

Once I know a) when the deletion project will start or b) which fixes will be worked on in April, I'll post another update.

Thanks!

jess

We feel like the ugly step-sisters of IV.  We are drowning and no one seems to care.  That makes me very sad.  But I am sure my feelings really do not matter to the Corporate World of IV.

I can only ditto what Tracy said and will ask the same thing.  If their intent is for the boards to wither on the vine and die.  Just let us know so we can go out with some dignity.  It would be the least they could do for us after all these years of supporting them.  We could use a little of their support this time.

My biggest fear with this whole thing, and I think a lot of us are thinking the same thing, is that the message boards don't even make the list on the list of things that are important to iVillage, the corporation.   And if that is the case, based on the the current situation, it's easy to draw the conclusion that if the boards were being left to wither on the vine, no one would even tell us.

We are told that plans have changed.   We see it as being lied to.   Maybe it's not intentional, and I am okay with assuming it's not, but it's still a hard one to understand.   We are told one thing, we wait and when that plan never comes to fruition, we are told it is because the game plan changed.   How long do we play to game of this is the plan, no this is the plan, no wait... this is what we are doing?

Honesty is what we want.   You say we are getting it.   I hope I accurately described what the view looks like over on this side of the fence.   If the plan is to let the boards just dissolve naturally due to neglect, I think we deserve that information.   I guess you can't publish that though because of the advertisers.

Since iVillage is in the process of switching hosting companies, which we've finally been told after all this time, will it be a company who will actually fix all the technical problems? Or will it be more of the same? Will they also do some worthwhile PR work to bring in new members to the boards and maybe reach the ones who've left to encourage them to return? Just wondering.

Donna, I don't think they are changing back to an outside company for running the boards, I think they are just moving the site to another data storage company.  The iV tech department will still be in charge of everything, but the actual servers where all the data will be stored is owned by a new company. iV just rents storage space from them.

At least that is my impression. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. I can see why they need the team to be monitoring that. I just don't see why they didn't explain that a couple months ago, and tell us they couldn't work on any other problems because they couldn't do it until after the board data deletion project was complete, but now they tell us it hasn't even started, and, oh, by the way we CAN work on some of the fixes now.....

Personally, I do not think that was a very nice thing to say to a concerned member, no matter how upset she is.

The point is; no one really wants to leave ivillage, they are/were comfortable here for many years and made a circle of friends over the years.  Unfortunately the way iV stands now and has been since October, it is almost impossible to function on this forum anymore .   So out of sheer frustration, we are slowly almost all forced to leave.  Sad but true.  It is an understatement that a person might be "unhappy here" , thinking most of the remaining members are unhappy the way things are.  There is no other way to feel right now.    But gee, to say ...."sorry  you're unhappy but if you decide to leave I'll understand,,,, what a slap in the face.

Cara, thank you for explaining the moving to another data storage company. I understand better now. I just don't understand why they are destroying our beloved boards. :(

That was my interpretation of that comment as well and it makes me both angry and sad.  This used to be a great site that I rushed home to hop on to see what was new, referred friends for advice, learned new things, and shared plenty of giggles.  Now it isn't any of those things, the technical difficulties are making it worse, and there is just a general sense that we aren't wanted here.  That doesn't work for me so I too am stepping down.  Please remove my community leader privileges and title.  Good luck to those of you who decide to stick around.

This makes me so sad, all these people that I don't necessarily know, but I have known their names for years bailing out.   Pathetic.   Not their decisions, but the circumstances that drove them to it.

You know, a simple "we are sorry" would have gone a long way here.   But there has never been close to an admission that this change is a huge fail.

Jessica is fairly new to iVillage..... if I recall correct she came in after the last disaster "upgrade" and I guess that's been no more then two years ago or less. Hope that helps answer your question.

Hi..

I wanted to jump in to say that we have said sorry -- maybe not in the same format you mention, but we have apologized for inconveniences and delays. I know that in the end, that really doesn't change anything, but we've been right there with you in sadness over resigning community leaders and members who have gone elsewhere.

(And I'll work on removing CL status, Lady..we're sorry to see you go!)
