Looking for specific tarter sauce recipe

I'm grasping at straws here . . . in the late 60's early 70's there was a restaurant in The Merchandise Mart in Chicago, IL.  The name of it was "The Sample Room" and was located on the second floor.  They served a fish filet with the most wonderful tarter sauce I have ever tasted.  I cannot replicate it to save my life.  It wasn't sweet, I never tasted dill but it was smooth and didn't have the regular mayonnaise flavor.  Has anyone out there ever had the opportunity to eat at that restaurant and taste that tarter sauce and . . . would you be able to remember or give me possible ingredients?  I even tried getting in touch with the owners of the restaurant, but he didn't know the recipe either.  Help

Hi,

I'm not familiar with the place, so hopefully someone who has been there will see this and offer their 2¢ for you. I'm also not a tartar sauce fan so I wouldn't even know where to begin to help with that. You can try our cooking board: http://www.ivillage.com/forums/food/recipes-cooking/kitchen - I'm sure someone can at least help point you in a direction.

Good luck!
