Message Board Fixes - Updates

Hi, everyone!

First, I want to say THANK YOU for all of your posts -- some issues we know about and are already working on; but you also brought some new bugs to our attention too. It's a big help to us to see these, and it helps me prioritize what needs to happen immediately, and what can come after that.

After we went live yesterday, thanks to you, the Community Leaders, and the Moderators, I was able to give a long list (Wink) of To-Dos to the tech team.

I'll use this thread to start reporting what our tech team is working on. I'll post a follow-up as things get fixed.

Right now, this is what is being worked on:

1. Fixing Log In in IE

2. Re-importing missing user accounts (those "Visitor (Not Verified)" accounts), which is also related to the Error pages we get when we click on a thread.(What happens is this: when we click on a thread, the system needs to load all the info about that thread – the content, the settings, and the users attached to it. As the system searches frantically for the all the users participating in that thread, when it hits a missing user account, the page load fails.)

3. Re-importing missing message boards: All of the June 2012 Playgroup; boards in the Current Debates, After School Activities, 2008 Playgroup Friends, 2009 Playgroup friends, and Wedding & Honeymoon Planning topics; and the Nurtured Heart Approach board in the Spirited & High Needs topic. I can't thank our members in these boards enough for your patience!

Additionally, you should start seeing some Avatars reappearing, as well as some Signatures.

Also, you'll notice that header copy is missing from the boards -- that will be reloaded in the next 24-36 hours.

As for the rest of the list, I'm sitting down with the project manager this afternoon to prioritize the next tasks for the team. I'll make features that are not working or missing the highest priority.

I'll talk to you soon!

...keep going!

Just noticed something else - the In Reply to: always says we are replying to ourselves!

I will try in Chrome and see if that works. I have been using FF so far.

Thanks for all the incredible work and help. I've really appreciated the extra presence of the Mods on the board as well -- it's really helped in keeping things calmer with this switchover. While I have a small following, I didn't see the huge freakout I expected from one particular boardie -- she was actually much calmer because CM's LisaB and Donna were right there to answer questions within minutes. Thanks!

Thanks, Janx! We're trying to do our best to keep all the plates spinning at once, that's for sure! LOL

I'm trying to get more detail on the iphone logging in/out issue from her - I'll let you know what she says.

Hmm...it seems as though some posts are missing from this thread now? (I am SO confused now...)

Another issue - I just had an email from one of my UK posters - she said that she can't get in to the site at ALL, that it is telling her she is an "unauthorized user" - so she is wondering if that is a "country issue". She said she tried to open a new account to see if it was just a settings transfer glitch, but that it wouldn't allow her to do that either.

Hi, 4-Kids

I've seen a temporary workaround for that "email already used" error. It worked for a few of us, but not everyone. Maybe it will work for you! Seems it has to do with the password field. If you want to change anything in Edit My Preferences, go to the Account tab > delete the password from the password field > go change the thing you need to change (in your case, try uploading an avatar) > click the Save button at the bottom. When you go back to your Account tab, your pwd is still there, but your changes have actually been saved. I have a ticket in for the team to fix this, but until then...

If it doesn't work, sorry about that. This is one of those top-10 things that need fixing though!

I'll ask around about the quick reply paragraphs. I suspect it's because the quick reply window is just a text field. It should at least recognize paragraph returns, though!

Nice catch!

I haven't been able to log in on safari. Also, when I try to add a siggy, I get an error message that my email is already being used. In quick reply, even if I hit a hard return between sentences, they all post as a paragraph instead of separate lines. Thank you for all the hard work! I'm sure it's not easy to switch it all over.

Hi Jessica! First, thanks for all of your help! Yes, I can send and receive PM's since the relaunch, but am still really hoping the missing ones will come back! Was in the middle of a pretty intense discussion with someone and sent a few "books" lol - so i'm hoping they will still go through!

Hi Jessica -

On the iPhone logging in issue, she said this:

"It logged me in automatically with the new format - yikes and now can't find any link to sign out. So permanently logged on."

Hope that helps?

Tried to log in on Chrome to see if that would work - but it automatically takes me to ivillage.ca (since I am in Canada) and then does not recgonize my email address OR my User name. It will not stay on .com no matter what I do...

I was hoping someone would mention the mobile site. I've reported my problems to Thia, but wanted to check here, too. I haven't read through this whole thread yet.

I still can't read replies on my phone and the whole setup is just weird. I use my phone to check the boards 95% of the time, so I'm really disappointed in this. At least I can log in from my laptop today.

Kim-

The way I got around that was to hit "start a new discussion" (the only button I had on my phone) and then it forced me to login. It did close my browser after I posted every single time, though.
