Message Board Fixes - Updates

Hi, everyone!

First, I want to say THANK YOU for all of your posts -- some issues we know about and are already working on; but you also brought some new bugs to our attention too. It's a big help to us to see these, and it helps me prioritize what needs to happen immediately, and what can come after that.

After we went live yesterday, thanks to you, the Community Leaders, and the Moderators, I was able to give a long list (Wink) of To-Dos to the tech team.

I'll use this thread to start reporting what our tech team is working on. I'll post a follow-up as things get fixed.

Right now, this is what is being worked on:

1. Fixing Log In in IE

2. Re-importing missing user accounts (those "Visitor (Not Verified)" accounts), which is also related to the Error pages we get when we click on a thread.(What happens is this: when we click on a thread, the system needs to load all the info about that thread – the content, the settings, and the users attached to it. As the system searches frantically for the all the users participating in that thread, when it hits a missing user account, the page load fails.)

3. Re-importing missing message boards: All of the June 2012 Playgroup; boards in the Current Debates, After School Activities, 2008 Playgroup Friends, 2009 Playgroup friends, and Wedding & Honeymoon Planning topics; and the Nurtured Heart Approach board in the Spirited & High Needs topic. I can't thank our members in these boards enough for your patience!

Additionally, you should start seeing some Avatars reappearing, as well as some Signatures.

Also, you'll notice that header copy is missing from the boards -- that will be reloaded in the next 24-36 hours.

As for the rest of the list, I'm sitting down with the project manager this afternoon to prioritize the next tasks for the team. I'll make features that are not working or missing the highest priority.

I'll talk to you soon!

...keep going!

Hi, shywon

We'll be testing a list of non-working redirects, so I'll make sure The Single Life is on that list!

As far as New vs. Read messages, we did know that we were going live without the "Mark as New / Mark as Read" feature. (In fact, I need to ask the team if they can remove this from quick links. It's misleading to have it there.) Not having the New or Read classifications right now impacts the way threads are displayed (there's nothing to trigger a change from bold to unbold) and it impacts the tracking of which posts you haven't read (just as you suspected.) This New vs. Read thing, as you can see, is a mini-project in itself. Once we get some of the missing and non-working features back up and running, we're tackling these types of mini-projects.

As for mobile, I discussed many of the issues you listed here with the tech team today. I went ahead and started a whole new thread in this board for the problems we're having on mobile. :)

Thanks for all the feedback -- it really does help!

Jess

Here are a couple of other issues I have noticed that i didn't see mentioned in this thread:

* I was unable to post using the Quick Reply feature in the few times I have tried.

* The old link to the breastfeeding support board was redirecting to a blank page last night rather then to the new link for the board.

Hi, there.

Looks like this "in reply to" field is working correctly in Chrome, IE and FF. (Can you post a link with an example, if you're still seeing it?)

Thanks!

Still seeing it using FF 15.0.1 - here is a screen shot of your post.

I just upgraded to FF 16.0.1 and still seeing it...

I've seen a temporary workaround for that "email already used" error. It worked for a few of us, but not everyone. Maybe it will work for you! Seems it has to do with the password field. If you want to change anything in Edit My Preferences, go to the Account tab > delete the password from the password field > go change the thing you need to change (in your case, try uploading an avatar) > click the Save button at the bottom. When you go back to your Account tab, your pwd is still there, but your changes have actually been saved. I have a ticket in for the team to fix this, but until then...

"I can't even get to the Edit My Preferences screen.  It just keeps saying iVillage is not responding.  This has been happening for a few days now.  I'm using IE9 with Windows 7.  Never had any problem before.  Thanks.

This is definitely NOT still working for me. I work in Chrome and the URL I had saved was http://www.ivillage.com/forums/forum/?category.id=iv-ppbreastfeed This brings me to a page that says Forums at the top with a search box labeled "Find a Conversation", not my board.

I've already updated my bookmarks, so I don't have it saved anywhere anymore.  It was a huge pain to have to go through all the channels to get where I was going.  Isn't that something that you all should have somewhere?
