Message Board Fixes - Updates

Hi, everyone!

First, I want to say THANK YOU for all of your posts -- some issues we know about and are already working on; but you also brought some new bugs to our attention too. It's a big help to us to see these, and it helps me prioritize what needs to happen immediately, and what can come after that.

After we went live yesterday, thanks to you, the Community Leaders, and the Moderators, I was able to give a long list (Wink) of To-Dos to the tech team.

I'll use this thread to start reporting what our tech team is working on. I'll post a follow-up as things get fixed.

Right now, this is what is being worked on:

1. Fixing Log In in IE

2. Re-importing missing user accounts (those "Visitor (Not Verified)" accounts), which is also related to the Error pages we get when we click on a thread.(What happens is this: when we click on a thread, the system needs to load all the info about that thread – the content, the settings, and the users attached to it. As the system searches frantically for the all the users participating in that thread, when it hits a missing user account, the page load fails.)

3. Re-importing missing message boards: All of the June 2012 Playgroup; boards in the Current Debates, After School Activities, 2008 Playgroup Friends, 2009 Playgroup friends, and Wedding & Honeymoon Planning topics; and the Nurtured Heart Approach board in the Spirited & High Needs topic. I can't thank our members in these boards enough for your patience!

Additionally, you should start seeing some Avatars reappearing, as well as some Signatures.

Also, you'll notice that header copy is missing from the boards -- that will be reloaded in the next 24-36 hours.

As for the rest of the list, I'm sitting down with the project manager this afternoon to prioritize the next tasks for the team. I'll make features that are not working or missing the highest priority.

I'll talk to you soon!

...keep going!

Hi, happyasme.

I can assure you, that's not our ad, nor would we ever run such an ad on our site. Are you still seeing it? Can you PM me or a Moderator a screenshot? In the meantime, have you checked the settings on that computer?

Thanks!

Are there any updates on how we can customize our iVillage experience? Any time I try to work with my preferences, I get the following errors:

 • The specified passwords do not match.
 • Only numbers are allowed inNumber of replies per conversation page.
 • The signature is too long: it must be255characters or less.
 • Your current password is missing or incorrect; it's required to change thePassword.

I've tried the "work around" by deleting what was supplied in the password field and making/saving a change, and that hasn't worked. I'm unable to upload an avatar or set any preferences.

I've noticed that I look like I'm replying to myself in threads, not to the person to whom I'm really replying. I've started either quoting or specifically referencing the person i'm speaking to, until the bug is fixed.

I assume that my signature is "too long" because I use cgispy, a signature rotator, and the code supplied must use up my 255 characters? Will there be a work-around for this? I've used a rotator for a long time, and especially as cl of Signature Showcase, I feel it's important to be "well dressed" in my posts. I actually also was using another rotator as well, to rotate some "board advertisement" graphics and invite people to my board to have a new signature made. I know many others who use a rotator as well, so it's not just me! I really hope signatures will be back. I suppose I'll go make a single picture siggy for now, if I can even get it to save.

Will the team boards be available anytime soon?

Will we be able to subscribe to each topic like we could with Lithium, so we'd get an email when someone posted a new thread in the topic? That was a really nice feature for me, because sometimes I'm too busy at home to check my boards, so at least I knew if there was someone new that I needed to reply to right away.

I miss being able to tell at a glance which threads were new and which I'd already read. Will this be an available feature again soon?

If I open more than one thread (in a new tab) to read, I get an error message. I used to open all of the threads with new messages and work my way across my tabs to read and reply.

I miss the feature that took you to the first unread message in a thread, and I'm also finding it cumbersome that when i reply, then I have to thread my way back up through the messages to find the next unread message, instead of being redirected to where I had been. I think maybe I'll be able to work around that by opening my replies in a new tab.

Thanks for your hard work, Jessica, CM's, and the tech team. Change is always frustrating but once it's done and the dust settles, I'm sure things will seem "normal" again. And, hopefully with things being in-house, there won't be so many of those "that's the way things are, we can't do anything about it" kind of moments Sealed

How do I get my avatar to show again?

Hi, Bluepen

We're in the process of reloading avatars. If you don't want to wait for that fix to go through, you can try to upload a new one (edit my preferences > account tab > choose & upload the picture > click Save at the bottom). Many members have successfully re-added theirs, including me!

Thanks!

Hi, Veggiemama

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Everyone's really putting in the hours right now get all these things set right. And you're correct -- we're definitely not in a "that's the way it is / can't do anything about it" world. As long as the technology can be designed and built, and as long as it's a value to our members, we can do it.

You cover a lot of different issues in your post. I'm actually about to post a long update to this board in a few hours, once I get an update from the tech team. It will include much of what you're asking about above. Hang tight for a little bit? I'd hate to write a short novel to you at 3.45, when I know I'm getting better information at 4.30! Laughing LOL

A quick note about the missing boards, mentioned in item #3 in my original post here. Some of them are available now!

Current Debates - http://www.ivillage.com/forums/pregnancy-parenting/hot-topics/current-debates

2009 Playgroup Friends - http://www.ivillage.com/forums/forum/21293

2008 Playgroup Friends - http://www.ivillage.com/forums/forum/21303

Wedding and Honeymoon Planning - http://www.ivillage.com/forums/forum/20004

As for the others, unfortunately we have to wait a bit longer. Lithium is currently exporting their final version of the ivillage data to us (the whole Godzilla; it captures data right up to the hour we flipped the switch), and the still-missing boards and any missing data from the 4 above is in there. Once we have the data, we'll do another import for just these boards.

We're making progress! Thanks for sticking with us!

All my posts seem to still be from an unverified visitor and all the discussions I have started have turned into errors. How long until I'm fixed?

Siggy
