Message Board Fixes - Updates

Hi, everyone!

First, I want to say THANK YOU for all of your posts -- some issues we know about and are already working on; but you also brought some new bugs to our attention too. It's a big help to us to see these, and it helps me prioritize what needs to happen immediately, and what can come after that.

After we went live yesterday, thanks to you, the Community Leaders, and the Moderators, I was able to give a long list (Wink) of To-Dos to the tech team.

I'll use this thread to start reporting what our tech team is working on. I'll post a follow-up as things get fixed.

Right now, this is what is being worked on:

1. Fixing Log In in IE

2. Re-importing missing user accounts (those "Visitor (Not Verified)" accounts), which is also related to the Error pages we get when we click on a thread.(What happens is this: when we click on a thread, the system needs to load all the info about that thread – the content, the settings, and the users attached to it. As the system searches frantically for the all the users participating in that thread, when it hits a missing user account, the page load fails.)

3. Re-importing missing message boards: All of the June 2012 Playgroup; boards in the Current Debates, After School Activities, 2008 Playgroup Friends, 2009 Playgroup friends, and Wedding & Honeymoon Planning topics; and the Nurtured Heart Approach board in the Spirited & High Needs topic. I can't thank our members in these boards enough for your patience!

Additionally, you should start seeing some Avatars reappearing, as well as some Signatures.

Also, you'll notice that header copy is missing from the boards -- that will be reloaded in the next 24-36 hours.

As for the rest of the list, I'm sitting down with the project manager this afternoon to prioritize the next tasks for the team. I'll make features that are not working or missing the highest priority.

I'll talk to you soon!

...keep going!

Jessica-

I just wanted to respond to you as well and let you know- we (the L&S cl team) requested many, many times that our navigation bar be restored to the way it was and to match the others maybe 18  months ago.  It was a nasty, ugly fight and ended with us being told that the decision was made, we were being split up among other channels, and that was that.  At that point, our boards got much slower, the L&S team diminished and everyone felt like we weren't valued as a team.  It was  horrible.  Awful, terrible, horrible.  If you can get us back up and running the way we used to be, that would be great.  I believe the person in charge of that at the time really didn't like the word "sex" at all and didn't value any board that wasn't about parenting, but that's just how I felt.  It certainly is the way it seemed.

<p>CD Jessica, I have found a new problem of sorts.  In the header where it lists all the sections of the 'Village, Love &amp; Sex doesn't show any options.  The other sections do.  Just thought you would like to know and I wonder if that is why my boards have fallen completly silent. </p>

The L&S header hasn't had anything under it in a long, long time.  Since before the last "upgrade", if I remember correctly.  We argued and argued about that, but were basically told to suck it up and deal with it because that's how it was going to be.

Maybe someone else has responded, but since this format doesn't jump to the last unread, I wasn't going to weed through 130 posts just to find yours again if they hadn't!  Now I'm going to post this, it's going to go to the last response, and I'm going to have to find this post again to start reading where I left off.  So I guess I have to do the same thing no matter what!!

I really hope they get this all fixed soon.  I'm far, far away from patient at this point.

Elc - absolutely yes, "Email address is already taken." Of course it is - it's our address! It's the same with me when trying to edit anything under my account.

And to Donna -

I had the simplest option for a signature: a couple of one-line, rich-text paragraphs amounting to well under 200 characters. But I note my signature shows the first line and only half the second - together with a huge gap between the two. (See below.) I went to my account and tried to reset my full signature. It refused, telling me that I'm limited to 255 characters!!

This, together with the additional 'Error' informing me that my own email address is "already taken," has left me non-plussed and very frustrated.

Jessica, thank you for responding.  Is this what you mean by an URL: http://forums.ivillage.com/t5/Sex-Taboos/To-Look-at-and-be-Looked-at/m-/119012825#M72888.

Hmmm.  I seem to have double posted so I will edit this one.

CD jessica.  Yes the main board header is the one I was talking about.  I know that the boards for Love and Sex are listed under boards.  I'm just trying to figure out if my boardies went away because they were frustraited or they just got lost.  I use that main header when I am not on my computer to view my boards quickly.  It is an easy navigation tool for me.

Jessica, I hope my reply displays correctly, because I have used the Quote function to point to your answer, but it shows in a mix of confusing text and code as I type - as did yours to me!

Thank you for response. I look forward to the 'views' column functioning again in time because it was a good idea in the first place, as I explained.

Please do build back the spellchecker when other major issues are addressed. (Even BabyCenter, who was without one for some time, has acknowledged its benefits and has introduced  one now. Hmm... forgive me for citing a rival website - but iVillage had its spellchecker first!)

Your work together with your colleagues at this time, on behalf of iVillage, must be an immense undertaking. Be sure that I'm not alone in my admiration for you all.

When visiting any  of the ivillage boards on my ipad, I am only able to view the first post of a thread. Also, my profile activity only shows one posting which was from nearly a year ago (and is not complete--half of what I wrote has been deleted).
