The profanity filter is working overtime!

I've been stopped twice in the last week and never could figure out what I was saying that was profane in a list of urls for embroidery tutorials. So I started a line by lie post to find the culprit and it was in the url of one of the links... "quick**" (where the ** stands in for the letters i and e)! Quick** is profane? Puleeese... It was for a quick Hanuakkah ornament, and I can't lead anyone to that pattern becasue the url provided by the host site has the workd quick** embedded in it!  In fact, odds are, it won't let me post this thread, now that I think about it...

Yup -- it won't let me post! Used the word "quick**" three times and ... little red error message!

Your submission has triggered the profanity filter and will not be accepted until the inappropriate language is removed.

I too have complained.  The best thing is to email (throught your own email) and complain!!  The powers that be are in the dark ages.  No wonder this site is losing members.

Hi Carol,

You are right- the profanity filter is working way overtime here lately (quick** is obviously not profane and shouldn't stop you from posting)! We are aware that there is a problem with the profanity filter and our tech team is working on a solution.

Good to know this one is on the list.

This goes into the "it's not really funny...but actually, it sort of IS" file:

Carol, you can't post the word "quick" without the filter going mental.  But the filter seems to have no problem with posting the F word, or so I noticed today.

I know - it really isn't funny.  And yet, I am giggling anyway.  :)

Laugh or cry...

Yikes, this one is one of those "OH NO!!!" problems...everything on the list is, but we've always worked so hard to follow the community credo of being a safe, well-lit place, and when one of those words gets through, ack!! It's funny what it's not allowing, and awful what it could...and neither side is good. :(

So far, all I know is that our list of filtered words is being over-ridden, but I don't have access to get in there and fix it. Until Jess and I are given proper access (and Jess is out ill) we won't be able to zap it back into proper form. If you see anything out there that shouldn't exist, please report it -- we will remove it asap.

Thank you!
Donna

2 out of 4 posts I have attempted to post on the diabetes board allegedly had profanity in them.   Neither post did.  this last one I sent a copy of to Karla after I got it. The first one I had sent a copy to MaryFrances about.  So I am batting 50% of my posts have profanity?   I don't think so. Also sadly since sending private messages(which allowed me to send copy of what I tried to post)totaly scrambles any attempts at spacing so I am not even sure either of them can tell exactly which part was  the total of the alleged profane post.  IF so many are having problems with this alleged filter, maybe they should get rid of it?  I will say right now I do not have the patience to try to go line by line thru a post or word by word to find out what it claims is profane.

Then after sending PM to both Carla(sorry I cant remember if hers is spelled with a C or a K) and MaryFrances i got the message asking me to take a survey. so this time I agreed. Problem was the first question was what is my age.  it took forever for the box to show up telling me where to put my age in. I tried tabbing all over and that did not help. finally i tried to make it take me to the next page and then the box showed up.  I entered my age, and then get a message saying the survey was complete?  So you have surveys just asking for our age?  That was very very irritating when I was already cranky.   If all you are going to ask is one silly question that takes 5 minutes to get it to enter,  its is not worth my time!!

Yeah, I had another one this morining --- about whole house humidifiers not passing teh profanity test... I'm sending the text to my CM but really, should I have to be able to tell what this filter thinks is profane?

And I'm convinced they don't want to hear from seniors on these surveys. I always get the thanks but this survey is closed whenever I enter MY age...Bing an antique on iVillage means we have no opinions worth hearing, I fear!
