Safari browser workaround for both PC and MAC

Hi everyone!  I was having trouble logging in over the weekend using my normal browser (Firefox) and tried Chrome and IE without success and on a fluke decided to try Safari and guess what, it works on both the PC and MAC.  I haven't come across any other significant issues thus far using either the MAC or PC. And posted in a couple of other threads about it...

The normal bugs are still there -- and will be, however NO annoying pop up ads at the moment to interfere with reading or posting.  I'm not even getting the requests for surveys before or after every post or reading every thread. Anyway, if you have Safari loaded, use it.  It's a work around and a fairly clean experience.  One note always copy a long post before you click POST because if you get that dreaded 503 page after after you've clicked post, don't panic, it's most likely that your post did go through -- but on the off chance it didn't.  At least you didn't lose your reply.  You still have the option of pasting it in again.  That's happened a couple of times.  I'm learning my lesson - short and long.  LOL

Let the bugs be gone soon!Smile

I was jumping up and down for joy the other day when I could log in with Firefox -- but that was shortlived!

:(
Loved having notifications too!  Those have died as well too!  I don't have time to go and subscribe individually to each and every post - and set the notification to email.  I wish the default was email.  Is there a way to set that as my default again?

At any rate -- still having to have a couple of browsers open because Firefox is my browser of choice because of work -- Something interesting to note, the board in one browser does not appear the same in the second browser even though the preferences are set.  Refreshed, cache and cookies have been emptied in both browsers and I have tried to log in on Firefox several times unsuccessfully -- which I sure has a lot to do with it.  Safari also does not put the new posts in the same position as Firefox does either.  So I may have to go through 2 pages of posts in Safari and only 1 page in Firefox to find the new post.  Very interesting.

Really hoping the bugs get worked out soon.

I've had Safari on my pc laptop for about 2 years.  Just rarely use it. Firefox is my preferred browser on both the MAC and PC.

and I too hope they'll be able to get things straightened out shortly.  I've got some boardies that are having some major issues with iPads and phones that we haven't be able to resolve yet.

Hi Carol, I've had Safari forever loaded on my PC and MAC but don't use it very often!  LOL  Prefer to use Firefox on both. I have a pretty good firewall and malware installed that keep me out of virus trouble - Anywho, on a hunch I tried it when I couldn't get in with the other browsers and it worked.

On a side note:  It's interesting though - I know I'm logged in half way -- because I can see my reward points, access my profile using Firefox - I just can't post.  I can go to the board by clicking on the board in my drop down history from there or on the bookmark folder and I won't be logged in.  Click on a post, try to reply and get the error message again that I'm not authorized to post IF I'm using Firefox or another browser other than Safari right now.

Just grateful for this little break in things.  I was definitely going through withdrawals!  And it was less than 24 hours!  LOL  I guess that's what 12 years of being around this place will do to you.

Gosh --- how do you get Chrome to work for you? I can see the page but I'm not logged in and it won't take my log-in... so I gave up on it!

I didn't know there was a Ssafari for PCs until the other day when one of my board memebrs told me she couldn't even reply using Chrome on her PC so I went searching for alternate browsers for her and found out that Safari does indeed have a PC version: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1531?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Thanks for the tip Jan, and glad that you've found a solution of sorts. I wasn't aware that there was a version of Safari for PC, for how long has that been available?

I'm on a Mac and I can use the boards in Safari, FF, and Chrome but I get the various annoyances in all of them (although I mostly use Safari out of habit). Sometimes it says I'm not authorized to post but if I wait a few moments it corrects itself, sometimes it says I'm not logged in when I really am, I still get the pop-up survey and occasional pop-over ads even though I have pop-ups blocked, etc. Hopefully the tech team will be able to resume work soon and get all of this straightened out.
