10 people shot outside Empire State Building!

Wow. I couldn't believe the headline when I saw it this morning! It doesn't appear to be linked to terrorism (not that it makes it any less horrific) :

Two people are confirmed dead, one of them is the shooter. I hope the other ones that were shot do not have serious injuries. Scary how this happening more and more frequently! 
Thoughts and prayers to the families affected by this latest shooting.

When I first read about it this morning, I immediately assumed the guy had shot into a crowd of people. Now that several hours have passed, more of the story has come out. It appears that the shooter targeted one specific co-worker and shot him multiple times. He then walked out of the building. By the time he had exited the building, police had been notified and start chasing him. The shooter then turned around and pointed his gun at the police. The police then fired off 16 rounds, killing the shooter. However, 9 other people were injured by all those bullets that were sent ricocheting.
I'm torn on how I feel about this. I absolutely feel the officers did the right thing by firing back (they had a gun pointed towards them!) but 16 rounds? I don't know, I guess they just panicked. But it's upsetting that all those other people were injured by the excessive bullets. Thank God no one else was killed.

I agree that the police officers had to shoot...I just think that they overdid it. The shooter was shot 7 times...one police officer fired his gun 9 times & the other 7 times. Considering the crowded nature of that area, I'd think that the officers would have been a little less 'enthusiatic' in their response.
Maybe we should take guns out of the hands of cops that stupidly shoot innocent people.

This is disturbing on so many levels.
The cops didn't just overreact, they turned into lunatics and should be charged with murder and attempted murder, several times over.
