I went to the amren website and read a very disturbing story. I wonder what everyone's take is on the motive.

I saw a brief comment on it (about 10 seconds) on ABC TV, but nothing on NBC or CBS news. Could you imagine NBC and CBS evening news ignoring a mass killing of 8 Blacks by a White guy? BTW, did anybody hear about the shooting of the ice cream truck driver by an "urban" youth? The news article is listed under Friday, July 15 on the AMREN website. Those section 8 housing projects are great places for the whole family, aren't they?

I would imagine we do not hear about all murders period. Murders happen every day. People are shot every day. I'm not sure where you live, but I'm outside of Chicago. I don't even hear about every shooting in Chicago, sometimes they are nothing but a 1 paragraph notation that someone was killed. What gives these stories regional or national recognition is when they can be sensationalized. There's been plenty a white girl that has gone missing and gotten tons of media attention and a black girl from the inner city of Chicago goes missing and it's a footnote in the news broadcast. Is it because the reporters are racist? No, it's because it happens all too frequently in certain communities therefore people don't feel more threatened when it happens. On the flip side, when it happens in a less crime riddled community residents do feel more threatened, it's out of the ordinary so reporters pick up on it.

Regarding section 8 housing projects, no they are not great places to raise a family. I've known people trying to do just that and it's hard. One friend of mine told me, 'there's no grass, nothing for kids to play on, no flowers or trees. You treat people like animals, they behave like animals'. She has a point. Many of these people see no future for themselves. They expect to die young, they expect to go to jail- whether or not they commit a crime. You can argue the merits of their point of view, but that is it. Just like the 14 year old, very intelligent, Hispanic girl I cared for when she was delivering a baby. She stopped me while we were talking and said, 'I don't know why everyone is so surprised I'm having a baby. That is the way we do it in our culture. My mom told me, it's time to get pregnant.'
It's a way of life that is at odds with how I live mine, and I think most of us can agree that the paradigm needs to change for these people, not because they need to live like me, but because some of these behaviors and attitudes about their futures are self destructive and do affect a lot more people than just themselves.
It's really all how you want to look at it. If you want to continue to see racism towards whites, you'll see it. Does it exist? Absolutely. I've been there too, just not as remotely often as my African American friends. We really need to get past pointing fingers. It keeps us in a rut and only encourages racist thoughts, it doesn't break down a single racial barrier.

That's strange. It was on my home page on Yahoo. It was BIG news. I don't own a TV, so can't attest to that.

I am sure it does vary from city to city. The poster mentioned section 8 projects, which have been torn down now in Chicago due to the problems with criminal activity and gangs. I'm in the suburbs, a collar county of Chicago and even our section 8 housing doesn't sound like what you describe.
I can see why there would be a 5 year waiting list for subsidized housing like that.

Your statements are racist. White people are the majority of the population, but they represent a very small percentage of the prison population.

My statements aren't racist. White meth addicts are white trash.

Having spent years working in maximum security, I know the percentages. And I also know reasons that have nothing to do with blacks being inferior. Such as unequal sentencing, police profiling leading to searches that wouldn't have been done on whites, etc.
