How many more Americans have to die before we start getting serious about illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and human smuggling?

TUCSON, Ariz. -- A U.S. Border Patrol agent was fatally shot after he encountered several suspects in southern Arizona, officials announced Wednesday.

Agent Brian Terry was killed late Tuesday near Rio Rico, Ariz., according to a statement released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

At least four suspects are in custody and another is still being pursued.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Terry family for their tragic loss," CBP Commissioner Alan Bersin said in a statement. "Our commitment to Agent Terry and his family is that we will do everything possible to bring to justice those responsible for this despicable act."

The FBI and the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office are investigating Terry's death.

KOLD-TV in Tucson reports the incident occurred just after 11 p.m. Tuesday in the Peck Canyon area north of Nogales.

Prior to Terry's death, the last fatal shooting of a Border Patrol agent was on July 23, 2009, when Robert Rosas, 30, was killed by unidentified assailants while responding to suspicious activity in a known smuggling corridor near Campo, Calif., CBP officials said.

Apparently we are serious about illegal immigration or there wouldn't have been border patrol agents in an area looking for illegal aliens.

"How many more Americans have to die before we start getting serious about illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and human smuggling?"

Many many more. :| We haven't the resources to fight...the firepower and soldier power are in Iraq & Afghanistan. Police here are out-gunned and under-staffed and limited in what they are allowed to do. And so they are at risk. And they die.

( Police here are out-gunned and under-staffed and limited in what they are allowed to do.)

And I think the Obama administration wants to keep it that way.

"In May, President Obama authorized the deployment of up to an additional 1,200 National Guard troops to the Southwest border to provide support for surveillance, reconnaissance and narcotics enforcement to augment CBP and U.S. Customs and Immigration (ICE) authorities already in place. Those deployments began on Aug. 1. Obama also requested $600 million in supplemental funds for enhanced border protection and law enforcement activities.

"Over the past year and a half, this administration has pursued a new border security strategy with an unprecedented sense of urgency, making historic investments in personnel, technology and infrastructure," Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a statement released on July 19.

"These troops will provide direct support to federal law enforcement officers and agents working in high-risk areas to disrupt criminal organizations seeking to move people and goods illegally across the Southwest border," the statement continued.

Napolitano also announced in July that more than $47 million in fiscal year 2010 Operation Stonegraden grants for the Southwest border states to support law enforcement personnel, overtime and related costs. Nearly 80 percent of the funding will go to Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas, up from 59 percent in 2008."

Despite all of this, smugglers are still getting through, along with illegal immigrants and bandits.....all the while....shooting and killing our border agents.

When is he going to get SERIOUS about this? Instead, he uses his time and resources to sue our state for trying to enforce the federal laws that they just don't seem to be enforcing.

See your link. There is plenty of money and resources going to fight illegal immigration at the borders, more than under the previous administration, and more deportations of actual violent criminals.

Oh, yeah, don't rock the boat any more. Too many people are getting disillusioned; don't do anything more "unpopular." Typical politician. What a disappointment! :( It's all the "politically correct" game playing... I'm in CA, and the amount of blather and mealy mouthed do-nothing in the name of offending anybody, is part of the game, too. And all the giveaways and why we are bankrupt. So people die and things don't change. Drug cartels have carte blanche to do business here in the U.S. Deport the criminals, they just come back eventually. Mexico doesn't want 'em, either. LOL! Put 'em in our jails, they continue to rule and run their drug business and murder business from our jails, just like the other crime barons like the Mafia, and their various ilk. It's not law enforcement that's a joke, it's the politicians who hamstring them. Our citizens are being victimized, but we have fewer rights than the criminals, and little protection. :|

The only protection we are getting is from our local law enforcement sherriffs. We have foreign nationals waging war on American soil, Americans are getting shot at and killed, Obama hasn't even bothered to make a trip down here to see how bad things are. He is a disgrace! Instead, he puts up signs warning American citizens to stay out of certain areas of America because of illegal bandits, smugglers, drug cartels that are armed and dangerous have taken over the land and American lives would be in danger if they enter those areas.

So basically, Obama has surrendered that part of America to the foreign drug cartels. Shameful!!
