They are reporting a story, not stirring up controversy.

Yes....they do have to be careful to not tell too many people. Otherwise, the Republican "death panel" meme will be resurrected. I think it was cruel for the Republicans to try to scare old people like that by characterizing these consultations as "death panels." It is a good idea for older people to have an understanding about the types of intervention that could be used and to make choices for themselves.

Yes, and it's been shown that overall, the more people who have Advance Directives, the less money is spent on keeping people alive who don't wish to be kept alive. I was looking at comments yesterday, people freaking out about the "government" making decisions for them and that "they" want their families to make the decisions for them. I have no respect for people who are willing to foist such a hard choice on their loved ones instead of making decisions for themselves. They should do their family a huge favor and make sure they have their choices in writing so family members don't have to guess what you want or make hard decisions when they are already grief stricken. Also, the "government" isn't making decisions for people. This rule will provide a billing code for a consultation specifically regarding Advance Directives so patients can be fully informed about what they are and what the various choices are regarding end of life care and doctors can get paid for such a visit.

Then why is Fox even mentioning "death panels"?

Why do Republicans scream about "liberty" and "freedom," yet not want people to have choices?

Wow...are you really going to spin this into something Fox News said?

(Why do Republicans scream about "liberty" and "freedom," yet not want people to have choices?)

Because having the government MANDATE something is NOT freedom and certainly is NOT giving one a choice.

The Fox News readers commenting on the story are screaming about the government mandating that everyone have Advance Directives. I wish they'd actually read and comprehend what this new rule provides payment to a physician for counseling/discussion regarding Advance Directives. It's not mandating that everyone have them, though it is certainly a good idea that everyone does. It's not forcing people to do anything. First, the conservatives scream about doctors not getting paid, and now they are screaming because doctors are getting paid. The contradictions would be amusing if it weren't so sad.

Oh, okay, so this is about the comments posted by "Fox Readers"....and not about the actual story itself.

Oh....the lengths some will go to make a story out of nothing....just to bash, bash, bash. Now THAT would be amusing if it weren't so sad.
