If FEMA had dropped the ball, if the situation in Joplin had deteriorated because a heckuva-job-Brownie fool was dutzing around and making a bad thing, worse........then yes, Obama should have immediately returned, demanded accountability from his political appointees, and gotten his "boots on the ground".

I didn't see gross incompetence in the news coming out of Joplin. Did you?

Obama can't seem to win. He's been castigated for showing up and "getting in the way," and castigated for not showing up. He's been harangued for not "hugging" disaster survivors.

The President did visit the devastated areas. Did you expect him, personally, to clean-up the mess?
He was not in Europe on vacation.
Obama wraps up Europe trip with visit to Poland

He didn't visit until his "trip" was over, one week later!

Well, that comes with the territory of a high profile position.

Welcome to In The News!

No, I felt the President was doing exactly what he should have been doing - taking care of the interests of the entire country. What could he have done? Can you imagine all the security & other stuff that goes into having a President visit? What kind of strain would that have put on the local police, etc.?

As it should be, the rest of our country responded with aide, workers, etc.

It's called diplomacy. Everything was being taken care of in Joplin as far as I've seen on the news. What could he have done? I'm sure he was being updated continually.

Yes, it's tragic, but does that mean that every time there is a tragedy somewhere in our country, the President has to race there? He'd never get anything done!!

Plus, I don't remember Bush rushing to New Orleans after Katrina....

And I believe Bush was raked over the coals for not appearing to care about Katrina & New Orleans.

The comment about them choosing to live there irked me, too. Tornados strike all over. I wonder how much compassion she had for Katrina victims.
