EPA forces Shell to stop drilling

Obama seems to like drilling, in Brazil, or anywhere not the U.S. Inside the U.S. his policy seems to be no drilling allowed. While high government and trade deficits are our biggest problem. Failure to permit oil drilling, will exacerbate these problems later. I recall in 1996 Clinton said he wouldn't approve drilling in Alaska because it would take 10 years before the first drop would be delivered. That would have meant more domestic oil from Alaska starting in 2006. Long term, decisions like this by Presidents and Congress have severely limited new oil exploration and development.

In December, the EPA's Environmental Appeals Board ordered the EPA to revisit two permits the agency had granted to Shell Oil for oil exploration off the coast of Alaska. The board -- which was responding to an appeal from Alaska native and environmental groups -- determined that the EPA had made two errors in issuing the clean air permits and told the agency's regional office that they needed to be revised. On February 3, Shell announced that the drilling projects would be postponed until after 2011 due to the permit delays and Alaska's short (105 day) offshore drilling season.

Gas prices have to do with Big Oil & oil speculators artificially messing with supplies. Big Oil is, once again, making RECORD profits.

Has no one heard of OPEC? OPEC counties' output is at least 3/4 of the non-OPEC countires. Actually on their web site, for 2009, their percentage is 79.6% vs 20.41% that's 1064 billion barrels as opposed to 272.9 billion non-OPEC.

This won't stop Obama from complaining about companies not using their leases. He will not mention (and most of the press won't mention) that the Executive branch won't permit any drilling. The Obama administration was already found in contempt for it's failure to issue permits last year.
Obama likes to change the rules, and appoint people hostile toward drilling. Which is his right, but he should be upfront about it, and take responsibility when we have no new domestic production.
Eventually the oil production from Alaska will be so slow, the pipeline will have to be shut down. Obama should indicate this is his intention, and plan. When we pay $5-$12 per gallon of gas in the next few years, Obama and his supporters should stand up and take credit.
Well, geesh! ONLY 245 people?!?! Why do they matter, after all Shell spent BILLIONS! They matter much more than a mere 245 Americans.
I WILL stand up and take credit for wanting badly to shift the nation away from dirty, dangerous, and costly energy.
Not to mention the BILLIONS in PROFIT they made just the 1st quarter of 2011....hmmmm???
