I've reported it to the CM.

Unfortunately, that report is actually flawed.

Why is it that people act as though we could not possibly function without our present level of fuel consumption?

I disagree that "nothing good will come out of higher gas prices".

If those higher prices result in people making lasting changes in their habits or patterns of use; and if those changes lead to a lessening our dependence on a dirty, finite, and geopolitically-risky "resource", then something will have been gained.

Ultimately, we could declare independence from oil execs and their stranglehold on the U.S. energy market. There's nothing "walking into the twilight zone" about it, IMHO.

Speaking of opinions, people vary tremendously in their perceptions. This is a debate board. Debate isn't about name-calling or negative characterizations. It's about making a case for one's point of view, using logic and evidence.

The reasons submitted for raising gas prices are illogical. It is convoluted logic. Let's follow the syllogistic logic to its conclusion. If you want to really cut the highway deaths, then bring back Prohibition since drinking is responsible for so many fatalities day in and day out. No alcohol for anyone and you will see a marked decrease in highway deaths. Secondly, since young people are responsible for so many accidents, nobody under the age of 21 should be allowed to drive. Just think of all the lives that would be saved. And just to be really certain, I think we should raise gasoline prices to a minimum of ten dollars a gallon. Just think how many more lives would be saved.

All of you who are advocating the increase of gas prices have lost good judgment, common sense and reason. Your measures will prove the downfall of America and its ultimate destruction.
