What are your thoughts on the government shutdown?  How long do you think it will take the situation to resolve?

Here are some ways the shutdown can directly affect you:

Melissa, my first thought is puzzlement over people complaining about the elected officials when we, the people of the United States chose those elected officials by either voting or not voting.  Second, I feel that this is democracy and democracy is a messing system.  Winston Churchill once said that “Democracy is the worse form of government except for all the others.”  A number of times in the history of the United States the situation were much worse than it is now and we have recovered and did even better.  I fully expect that same will happen with this situation.

It's a joke. Let them really shut down (everything) and see how we are affected. Most people have no clue what the government really does for us. If they did, they would be far more selective in electing people to represent them.

Our government is too big and totally out of control with OUR money. I applaud those who are at least trying to get this mess under control.

I think shutting the government down... which is a misnomer because the vast majority of the government doesn't shut down during a shutdown, which is why Obama needs to inflict artificial pain, like closing open-air monuments like the WWII memorial to veterans... wasn't the best plan for the Republicans.  I think the people need to really feel the pain of Obamacare in order to get past the rhetoric and lies and see it for what it is, unfortunately that will take a year or two and probably debilitate the country.  But as far as the length of the shutdown is concerned, I think it will last until sometime close to October 17, when the debt limit crisis will take over and Obama and the Democrats will have less leverage.

ACA is very good for most for sme not so good but this nation needs health care.  One accident or one operation can be horrid.

Congress will waste mony on a fighter that is useless but safety net?  So we have more people homeless and sick that cost billions in health care that could have been prevented.

The ACA will harm most people.  Do you have an extra $5K-$7K sitting around?  I'd venture to say that most poor and middle class people don't... but that's what they have to come up with out of pocket BEFORE their Obamacare insurance kicks in... not to mention the $60 co-pays.  And because most people don't have an extra $5K-$7K, what Obama has done is effectively TAKE AWAY insurance from millions of people and families.

Btw, fighter jets are anything but useless, and the cost of a jet pales to the ENORMOUS costs of Obamacare.  You're also mistaken about the "homeless and sick" but that's another argument.
