I like the self-checkout, have never been asked to use one, and think it's ridiculous to get rid of them. The stores I go to only have 2 or 4 per 20 or more regular checkouts. Don't see what the problem is.

I do not like the self-check out.

We only have one local store that has two self-checkout lanes and I have found them to be handy when I'm just making a mad dash in for one or two items. But they're definitely not for me when I do my normal shopping.

The one thing I really do like about the self-checkouts is that they're an "open all the time" alternative to the regular 10 items or less express lanes that always seem to be either mobbed or closed.

Maybe if the stores offered a discount, for using the self-checkout, people might like them more.

(BTW one store I shop at reduces the bill by 5 cents for every reusable bag.)

I go to two different grocery stores. One doesn't & has never had self-checkout. The other does but limits it to 12 items or less.

I use the self-checkout for 12 items or less. I like it. It has a scanner plate & works quite well - plus, there's always a cashier on duty to help with any problems or questions. Also, I worked in a grocery store bagging groceries when I was in high school, so I'm used to it.

We get the bag discount at all of the stores around here. At one of the stores, you have the choice of getting the credit back in change or giving it to a charity. They change the charity every month. I figure it's an easy way for me to donate too!

"giving it to a charity"

Good idea!

This is a surprise. My local Albertsons just put in self-checkout machines about 3 months ago. And now they might take them out?

It makes sense using these lanes for 15 items or less. The stores I go to use them for all types of orders.
Welcome to the board. :)

I don't think it's going to break my heart to have them removed from my local Albertson's. It seems like they are too sensitive and glitchy. I have to make sure my kids don't touch anything in the bagging area or the machine stops. I have to make sure I don't put my purse down anywhere or the machine stops. I've had problems when trying to pay. It's just ridiculous how time consuming they can be when things go wrong with them.
