Marion Jones vs Barry Bonds

I've heard allegations that the differences in sentences between Marion Jones (jail time) and Barry Bonds (no jail time) may have been gender related. I'm not that familiar with the cases. I know that both athletes claimed to have thought they were taking flaxseed oil not steroids.
Can anyone that's been following the cases clue me in?

It may have been because she admitted to lieing to the courts af first about taking steroids. I'm not sure but I think Bonds is still denying he knew what they were - and no, I don't believe him.
